Beta Weekend Events or BWEs were events that ArenaNet held regularly during the beta testing of Guild Wars and featured focusing on certain areas of the game for testing, as well as some fun and cool things. Players that did not take part in the normal Beta testing, but had preordered Guild Wars or obtained a beta key by other means (they were given out by fansites or came with gaming magazines) could play during the Beta Weekends.
