At GuildWiki we recognize our user's rights to freedom of speech. Therefore, we very rarely censor the comments of our users. This policy is to spell out the guidelines for when censorship is appropriate.

When is something censored

Section headers

Section headers often appear in the list of recent changes. Therefore, try to keep section headers decent and don't use text that may be disruptive. If you find something that appears in recent changes inappropriate, you may change the section header to something more appropriate. Please note that you made the change in the edit summary.

Talk page comments

Talk page comments are rarely censored except in extreme cases. Such cases would include something excessively offensive and disruptive (spamming racial slurs for several lines for example), libel, posting of another user's personal information, etc.

In general, you should always try to keep your comments civil and appropriate. Remember that because you are on the internet typing your words, you have a chance to reread what you say before submitting it. Please take the opportunity to do so.

Images

Images should always be "safe for work." That is, don't upload anything that could get someone in trouble for browsing at while at work. In general, your images should be Guild Wars-related anyway. If you're unsure whether or not something is appropriate, don't upload it.

User pages

The user name space (not the user talk name space) is generally left up to the user. However, it should follow the same guidelines for images and talk pages stated above. Keep things decent. If someone asks you to change something because they find it offensive, whether or not it is a violation, consider their request.

When not to censor

Cursing

In general, you should never change the comments of others. Censoring out curse words is never a reason to change someone's comments.

Removing text

Rewording or removing parts of another user's comments, regardless of whether it is on your talk page or not, may be considered a violation of this policy. Changing another's comments may be misleading.

Personal attacks

Unless the personal attack includes the posting of a person's personal information, or something excessively offensive, personal attacks should not be removed. Remnants of user conflicts are part of a person's edit history and may be used to decide on administrative actions. Additionally, if you posted it, then you should know that others judge you by your comments. Preventing people from hiding their shooting off their "mouths" is a further reminder that they should watch what they post.
