Rounding

Hm, not sure this is the right place to ask, but couldn't think of a better one: How does GW handle rounding? If you halve the recharge of a skill with 15-sec recharge, does it round to 7? Does it stay at 7.5? NightAngel 15:18, 14 January 2008 (UTC) Thanks for the help guys. THat was really nice. NightAngel 12:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I think it rounds up for damage [example: if under their armour you would deal 12.5 damage, it would turn to 13], but for skill recharges, I believe it rounds down.. Not sure though, probably best to check up on this. -- Scar -Scareth Sig- Contributions 13:33, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Ok, you can drag mini buttons for the menu on to the screen. Great and wonderful use of a mini button. Ok, I have a button I didn't '''mean''' to drag on to the screen, how do I get rid of a menu mini button? User:Lady Rah 11:05 EST January 9, 2008(UTC)

Automagic footnotes/references.

Wikipdia can do footnotes with the <ref> ... </ref> and <references/> keywords, but these don't appear to work here? Other keywords, or is there another build-in method? Amy Awien 18:26, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I myself don't see the need of it, anywhere. And I wouldn't know if we have such a thing implemented. I think not... --- VipermagiSig-- (s)talkpage 18:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't understand how one could not see the need for it, there are footnotes on many pages. Manually adding and maintaining them is stupid, especially if the wiki-software can support automatic numbering, updating, placement and hyperlinking of footnotes. --Amy Awien 00:32, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
If you're talking about footnotes made on pages that are like 2 then there really aren't many articles with those. Otherwise I don't know what you're talking about...the normal "Notes" sections aren't footnotes. Entropy Sig (T/C) 15:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I was talking about the 'superscript-numbers' and the regular hyperlinked wiki implementation. I suppose they wouldn't be used frequently if the mechanism is not available. If it's a standard wiki-thing it can be useful to turn on, I am not going to do them manually. --Amy Awien 16:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

The staff Handsmasher

i was wondering if i could purchase the staff Handsmasher through guildwars website. i have tried fighting the boss multiple times for the drop and was unsuccessful. please respond as soon as possible. thank you.

GuildWiki is not the place to buy or sell items. Try Guild Wars Guru for that sort of thing. And no, ANet doesn't sell in-game items either. Entropy Sig (T/C) 18:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Discontinued premade builds

Why dont the build links located under at http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Premade_build work?

I remember a while back that these links actually worked. Can anyone shed some light on the situation?

  1. Earlier these were in-game builds that you could select when creating a a new PvP character (even if you didn't have the skills unlocked), that feature was removed and most of these builds no longer see much use.
  2. All builds have been removed from this wiki and current builds can be found at the pvxWiki project. Amy Awien 14:52, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

PUG Bulletin Board

How about a page where people can sign up for PUG's for certain missions, areas, or dungeons? Not everyone has a wonderful guild with someone designated to be Julie the Cruise Director. A page with a table that lists missions, areas, and dungeons down the left side and dates across the top might allow people to fill in their names for the dates and places? If a table won't work, can we add sections to the appropriate area/mission/dungeon page that list proposed PUG dates and times and provides a space for people to sign up?

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure how this would work. The people who contribute to wiki are spread across virtually all time zones. And imo this isn't really a wiki-page type thing, this really is find a guild/ask friends/hero+hench things. --Shadowcrest 23:51, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Take the quest Terror_in_Tyria, all the details are in that link. Jamster Sig ---Jamster--- 18:40, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict ftl) You have a few options.

1) You play your Dervish through the Island, completing primary quests and the 3 missions there. Once you make it to Consulate Docks after completing, The Time is Nigh, you can then take a quest from Mhenlo, that allows you to travel between continents. (See Terror in Tyria).

2) You can get ferried to other continents by other players, usually charging a fee to do so. I am a little fuzzy on how that one works, perhaps someone else can better explain it.

Hope this helps. Aggro Isk8 Sk8 18:41, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Something Strange In The Neighborhood

Not so much a question... well I guess it is, but isn't. This is regarding in game messages, which today I have started receiving from random players. They are advertising gold selling websites. I am completely baffled as to how this may be happening, as I have never seen these character names before, and am currently sitting in my guild hall. Anyone else ever seen this happen before? Screenshot to follow. Am I required to omit the character names of the other players on uploaded screenshots? Aggro Isk8 Sk8 18:58, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Never happened to me...Entrea SumataeEntrea Sumatae [Talk] 19:01, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
This has happened to me before. Just put the "players" from who you receive the messages on your ignore list and they seem to stop whispering you after a few days. If it goes on any longer probably worth taking screenshots and reporting it to Anet. --Cobalt 19:05, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Isk8goldspam

Here is the screenshot of the spam I have received. At first I did place both players on ignore, but then something popped into the back of my head. Look at the text from the first one. He shouted out something inbetween spams. Hench my questioning with the second one, to which I received no response. All names (other than my character) as well as guild information, have been blurred out. I am wondering if people are perhaps using 3rd party apps or sites, that end up turning their account into a mobile spamming station, similar to how it happened very often in Diablo 2. If this is the case, I am slightly worried. And also the question of how does one whisper you in game, if they do not know your name. I can imagine if you are standing in town or something, but I'm in my guild hall. Aggro Isk8 Sk8 19:11, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
You do have your IGN plastered all over your wikipage here, and I'm sure its elsewhere on the web (Gw guru? Gww?). Yeah, they're generally bots, all with names like xxdb and spamming the same website, go to Int Dist 1 Great Temple and you'll see them :P I've never been bothered by PMs like that mind you, not yet, anyway. Jamster Sig ---Jamster--- 19:15, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
I wouldn't say my IGN is "plastered" all over here :P Aggro Isk8 Sk8 19:22, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, i thought the post between spams was from a guildie or something, strange that a bot would post that. Not that its much help now, but responding to these PMs is probably not a good idea as it proves that your account is active and used by a human (rather than a bot) and is thus worth spamming.
As for how they get your name, I have no idea. I was quite freaked out by it myself when it happened to me, so much so that i did a spyware/virus scan on my PC and changed my account password, but thats just 'cos im paranoid and i don't recommend that ;). I think they must use bots similar to the ones you can see in the great temple of balthazar to 'Harvest' the names of players entering the outpost.
As a final point, im not sure you need to grant anonimity(sp?) to bots - they are unlikely to complain about your not asking permission to display their names ¬_¬.--Cobalt 19:30, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd rather have the gold-selling site's URL blurred than the bot name. I think I first noticed the spammers in GTOB almost immediately after the free GW trial promotion for FilePlanet subscribers started. That could have something to do with the new surge of them. Since then I've been hit by them upon loading into Shing Jea Monastery and Kamadan, though not as often. —Vendetta411 08:01, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Also the blurring out was somewhat pointless as the message about being in the same district clearly shows the bots name to be "Sha Wanna" xD --Cobalt | Talk 19:24, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

I have recieved random messages in game as soon as I travel to the Great Temple of Balthazar. Seems as though I get them when I travel there and continually get them while standing there. Unindal 15:42, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
I read this question yesterday morning, and started getting the same PMs last night. I was in Gate of Madness at the time. Can't /report because they aren't in the district. :( -- Peej 14:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Colour of PC names in towns and outposts

This might be a dumb question, but why are some PC names in towns/outposts dark blue and some light blue? (press ctrl to display) I've noticed that light blue names for PC's in groups less than 8 will turn dark blue when you hover the mouse over their name. Apart from that, I dunno. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.236.56.101 (contribs) 23:56, January 26, 2008.

The colouring indicates if a player is a member of a party or not, light blue = not in party, darker blue means in a party. A party can be other human players, henchmen or heroes, they all count. As for why it "changes" when you hover the mouse over, this just means that went you entered the town that person was not in a party (or you didn't receive the data from the server in time), but upon hovering your mouse over, your game client updates it because it as since learnt that player has joined / left a team. It is done this way, as it would consume too much bandwidth / resources to update every player's client that is in a district the very moment anyone else in that same district entered or leave a team, instead you get "updates" every now and then, and your client only bothers to change the display if got spare CPU-cycles (ie, is a low priority task) or you mouse-hover. --Wolfie Wolfie sig (talk|contribs) 02:56, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

It'd be kinda weird if you had just that, but no theres nothing wrong with it. As far as I can tell anyway. --Shadowcrest 20:44, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
The reason behind it is that I want a centralized location for what I do have for sale or trade. Not only for myself, but for others as well. Unindal 17:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
There is absolutely no reason you cannot do that on your userpage. Essentially users can do whatever they want (within reason) in their user space as long as it is not disruptive to the wiki (uploading tons of images, using it as a guild forum (or anything else that might clutter recent changes with updates not related to the wiki at all), lewd and inappropriate behavior, copyvios, etc). As a sysop, I give you official (and by official I mean that I won't stop you from doing it) permission do make your userpage a store front. —JediRogue 18:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Character Size with blocking?

Upon being assured that there was no difference in character size from other characters, i have now come to realize that weapons scale to the size of characters, therefore making a bigger warrior have a larger axe. Because of this i have started to wonder if size has something to do with blocking too? i have noticed that being the smallest warrior possible i have a tougher time blocking than warriors who are larger than me. Is this all in my head? is there a difference in blocking?

Nope it's all the same 198.54.202.146 14:19, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
That would be game-breaking. ANet realized this, and that's why body blocking is not affected by size. Entropy Sig (T/C) 13:00, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Change my user Name

So, when I registered here at guild wiki I used my main char name, as that was all I was tracking. Now I wish to include information on my other char as well. As such I'd like to change my user name to be a more unique name and simply have sub pages for my characters. Other than creating a new acount and moving the pages is there a way to change the user name? or is that the best method? --NurseMyth 06:06, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

That's the best method, just create a new username, move your pages over and redirect from your old to the new to avoid problems.Entrea SumataeEntrea Sumatae [Talk] 23:54, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
I think Fyren could change the usernames, but it would be much easier to just register a new account and redirect your current to the new one. --Shadowcrest 00:00, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Proph Char in Nightfall Koss?

I just got my Prophecies Charactor to Nightfall and I'd liek start from begining to gt Koss. It starts you in Jewel so I walked to Chahbeck Village. I can't get to place where you first meet Koss and the Mission there won't me start without Koss. It does tell you to gt Koss in Party Search but because I haven't met him in begining Hero's tab doesn't even open. Is it possible to start at begining and get Koss or should I just start with Battle Commendations and skip it?

Thanks, Rcelliston 03:47, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

As a non-NF character, you'll unlock Koss through Battle Preparations. Felix Omni Signature 03:57, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Party

so if i go with heroes and henchmen, for example, from temple of the ages, where party size is 8, to gates of kryta, where party size is 6, are the henchman kicked from the party?

Yes. Anytime you enter an outpost with a larger party size than it allows, the excess henchmen are kicked from the group. This is always true when you walk through a portal into an outpost. You can keep the larger party size as long as you only go between explorable areas. So you could make it all the way to Eastern Frontier with 8 if you wanted. It is sometimes possible to have a larger party in some outposts when you are taken directly to them without going through a portal. For example, when you complete Venta Cemetery with a party size of 8, you can be sent back to Kamadan with 7 in your party. —Vendetta411 23:57, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I was just helping a friend in pre and noticed that there was someone in Ascalon that had a Kuunavang mini! Hero's Ascent

Little background. I am a long time PvE player of Guild Wars, but I am getting a burnt out fast on this portion of the game. Don't get me wrong, I love playing Guild Wars, working on titles, making gold and acquiring items to sell trade, but I want more. I have played competitively online first person shooters many times in CAL and TWL (and ranked very well at that) and understand the importance of working together as a team.

I have been looking into the PvP portion of Guild Wars for about the past week. Alliance Battles are fun and all, but seem a little chaotic at times. Random Arenas are just pure chaos with no organization. Team Arenas are good but there is no pay out for winning matches other than getting Balthazar Faction and working on the Gladiator Title. I have no real use for the Balthazar Faction becuase I have all of the skills and weapon upgrades unlocked from playing PvE.

Here is my predicament. I go to Hero's Ascent and say the typical LFG to try to get into a group. I never get any invites and if anyone is ever interested in letting me be in their group they ask me what my rank is. So I tell them that I am new to Hero's Ascent, no rank, am looking to get experience with them, and never hear from them again. Its like I need a rank to play Hero's Ascent, but I can not get a rank until I play. I have never had this much trouble getting into a group to play PvE missions and quests. I even went as far as to leave my Guild (in good standing, so that if I want, I may return) to try to get into a Guild that plays Hero's Ascent. I was in two different Guilds, no more than half and hour each, and got kicked from the for being a noob. Thats why I joined their Guild in the first place, to gain knowledge and experience from them; so they could teach me the ranks.

So my real question is ... How do I go about playing in Hero's Ascent? Unindal 15:55, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

If you wont leave your guild, you either need to look a long time for a lameway party and probably screw up, or you just don't. If you plan to leave your guild (wich will be needed if you want to do something serious, if you have a PvE guild) it will take a good time to find a Guild wich wants newbs (not noobs, but newbs. It's different). --- VipermagiSig-- (s)talkpage 16:07, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
What he is saying is, Pick Up Groups, normaly are rubbish, and not as coordinated as the high level guilds, the high level guilds want players who have experence, from high level guilds, so some contacts with a few leaders/ officers of GvG guilds may be helpful RT 16:10, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
It's your basic Catch-22. Felix Omni Signature 16:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Vipermagi, I have left my Guild. I have been in random groups in Hero's Ascent and they always get wiped really fast. Anyone have any 'Point of Contacts' for Guilds that do Hero's Ascent? If I were to treat this like other competitive play, usually people get recruited through playing well in matches or scrimmages. Well, as you can see, I have to first play in them to get my name out there, but can not play until my name is out there. Another Catch-22? Unindal 16:46, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
There's a few things you can do to increase your chances of finding a group. First of all, be in the International Districts. That is where nearly all groups form up. When you're spamming your LFG message, make sure you state the build(s) you're wanting or willing to play. Most group leaders will not go to the trouble of inviting someone if they're just spamming "LFG!" Another thing to try is familiarizing yourself with the common builds, the HA metagame. Check observe mode, fansite forums, or ask other more experienced players. Make yourself aware of what groups are looking for. Using common PvE terms like "nuker" or "healer" will indicate to experienced players that you're new to HA and won't help with the invite situation. Pick a build or two you feel comfortable trying and see if you can't find an unranked PUG that will accept you. Be patient in trying to find a group - it's not uncommon to spend half an hour waiting for one, even for the highly ranked players. When you do finally get started, focus first on becoming proficient with your own build and learning the maps/gametypes. From there, you'll want to work on some of the finer points of structured PvP, such as positioning. The better you get at this the faster your fame will go up, and you'll notice you have a better understanding of HA and PvP in general. Without having a guild or friends already doing HA, it's important to leave a good impression on PUGs you join. After a while, if you've played your role well and haven't had any fits of immaturity, you'll start getting whispers inviting you to groups as soon as you log into GW. Having reliable contacts shaves a lot of time off the party search and will make HA more enjoyable for you. —Vendetta411 16:50, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
The best way to learn about Heroes Ascent is to watch games on observe mode, as most HA guilds won't take on inexperienced players and PUGs are generally either terrible or require rank. Once you have a basic idea of effective team builds then you can either try looking out for PUG groups that are at least vaguely organised and don't have a rank requirement (though this can take a very VERY long time) or set up your own team and ask for players running certain builds. If you don't specify a rank requirement then you can often gain relatively able unranked (or atleast below rank 3) players who are in a similar situation to yourself. However, this still takes time, and HA is probably the least accessible form of PvP as most players have been playing it since GW was released and therefore had an opportunity to gain rank before people started demanding rank 3+. Perhaps you should try getting into a casual GvG guild instead, this is a good way to gain the PvP experience that is necessary in HA anyway and also these guilds often do a bit of HA on the side (and if you don't you can encourage them to try it) - that's how i got my first ranks anyway --Cobalt | Talk 17:04, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I was thinking of writing a newb's guide to HA but never got around to it. Anyway, one of the first things I can suggest is to play RA. Forget about faction or anything. Just play so you get a better idea of PvP. I've met quite a few people who came into HA new and didn't realize just how much experience they had from RA. There are a lot of bad players and builds in RA and it is a different play style but there are always things you can pick up. If you are trying to find a guild, make sure that the guild knows in advance that you are new. Listen to games on vent even if you aren't in them. This is a great way to learn different roles and how to be better at your role. The best way to learn how to snare is to listen to your team complain about how efficient the other team's snare was. The same applies to PD and quite a few other roles. Whenever you play even stupid meta gimmick junk like thumpway or whatever, try to find a group on vent. Listen and pay attention so you learn more than just the role you are playing. Lots of players only know how to play these things and get a higher rank and are a lost at the next level. Also, make sure you know what things are. Browse the glossary here on wiki (Category:Glossary or the other one) and look for pvp terms that you don't know. If you have questions pop a note on my talk page. I'm pretty experienced in HA. Finally, don't forget that what you are struggling with is something that a lot of new HA players have to go through. Don't lose hope. HA needs fresh blood. —JediRogue 18:42, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

From the Zen Daijun article: "For Factions characters (and Factions characters only), there is an exploit regarding clearing this area in hard mode for the Vanquisher title progress. Your character must complete the An Unwelcome Guest quest first and enter the area from Seitung Harbor. If you fulfill the conditions, no enemies will spawn, allowing you to just kill a Tiger or a Crane to immediately get the area vanquished. Re-Unlocking

I've just experienced a very strange bug. I created a PvP monk to go farm some glad points in RA, as i have done countless times before. First I loaded my skills template and equipment templates as normal, then i hit J to set my other weapon sets. Normally my monk energy sets go 40->52->77->28. However after i set them this time i noticed that they went 40->52->67->28. I checked my equipment and the insciptions for the off-hand and wand on weapon set 3 (my 15 set) were only giving me +10/-1. I thought Anet had nerfed the inscriptions or something, but it wasnt listed on any updates. So then i checked at the priest on unlock items and it said that i had only got the +10/-1 insciptions unlocked. not the +15/-1 i normally use. This wasnt' a huge problem as i had 2k balthazar faction on me with which to unlock them, but i already had these unlocked. I am not mad, i have been playing Guild Wars for over 2 years and have been using +15/-1 energy sets on my PvP monks for ages. I had to spend 2k faction re-unlocking something i should already of had. I have often thought before that "ooh, i was sure i've used that skill before" or "i thought i had that mod unlocked already" and just put it down to my own forgetfulness, but theres no way it's premature senility this time. I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced similar problems or if this is a known bug and there are ways to avoid having to re-unlock stuff in future? Thanks --Cobalt | Talk 20:21, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, how do you mean, "see through"? It's showing up transparent? For one, make sure your view is zoomed out a bit; if you zoom the camera in to a certain point, it makes the armor go semi-transparent.
If it's transparent at any distance, it's a graphics issue; make sure your graphics card is up-to-date, and that you've got all the drivers you need. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 18:08, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Most PvX users still use links to GuildWiki articles, skills templates auto-link to GWW. It's a mixture; a bunch of PvX users didn't like the Wikia deal, even more of the PvX users are also GuildWiki users, and some went both ways. I wouldn't say they "severed ties", seeing as there's not much go-between with any of the Wikis aside from the users themselves... but it's not as close a relationship as it could be, either. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

My friend recieved an extra slot in his vault box when he was greeted the bonus mission pack for free, due to the fact that he had bought GW Prophecies earlier in August 2007, from the official online shop. Now, i have searched EVERYWHERE on the net about getting an extra slot in the vault box when buying this mission pack, but i have to this date not found ANY evidence of that treat. I meet him IRL everyday as we live near,(we play together too) and i know for sure that he hasnt bought any other campaigns or expansions than Prophecies. Has there occured some kind of bug/malfunction to which he have recieved that extra slot, or is this something that is officially known of but not written about when talking about the mission pack?

The Bonus Mission Pack does not come with an additional storage box. All accounts now have 2 primary boxes and a materials storage box for the campaign they start with. This is probably what your friend has. For each additional campaign, you are given another vault box. The max any account can have is 4 vault boxes (1 for each campaign, and one extra) and a materials storage. —Vendetta411 18:59, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
There have been sightings of extra storage tabs when obtaining EotN/BMP, just like yours. Presumed to be a malfunction --- VipermagiSig-- (s)talkpage 19:19, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
If that was an option for purchase in the online store for, eh, $4.99 then I think it would sell massively. Only ANet knows how many extra character slots (or even accounts!) are bought just to get more storage space. >.> Entropy Sig (T/C) 00:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
<conspiracy theory>Maybe that's the reason why we aren't getting any extra storage space?! *dum, dum duuummm!* </conspiracy theory>. — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 00:43, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Entering Vanquishing mode

How do i enter vanquishing mode? please answer

If you have finished a campaign, a button should appear in your party menu (if you're in that finished campaign). If you pressed it, you've enabled Hard Mode and thus will be able to vanquish. Yikey 18:44, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
