Work log

Doesn't work with IE7 yet, for that I need to change the ":after with content insertion" to a copy of what wikia does: { background: url(favicon.ico) center right no-repeat; padding-right: 19px; } --◄mendel► 19:25, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Ok, that change has been done and tested - and yet some of the icons refuse to display (GWW, PvX, GW.es) or don't do so properly (fr.wikia). I believe I am done with the CSS; next on my list is creating some templates to go with that. --◄mendel► 09:13, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I've set up a prototype of the headline links on User:M.mendel. Of course you need the CSS installed - and also a special piece of css code, div#bodyContent { position:relative; } . This may break custom tabs (?). It serves to position the international content on the article headline, even if a sitenotice is in effect. Note that on our custom Monaco theme there is less space below the headline, making the international content appear higher up. I don't know yet whether this technique works with the Monaco banner ads . --◄mendel► 00:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC) Interwiki-top-demo

I've got a bottom demo now, too;
this is how they look at the moment.

Interwiki-bottom-demo

I may use this for the GWW/GW2W/PvX links since I like the way it looks - I always forget I have those extra "tabs". Entropy Sig (T/C) 09:39, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

The point in adding new features to GuildWiki is to make it more attractive than the wikis it competes with. From that perspective (and the license angle), it is ok to copy this to PvXwiki, but copying it to GWW and GW2W ought to be considered an act of treason. --◄mendel► 10:54, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
If GWW used this feature to link to us, it might not be treason. --◄mendel► 11:59, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
On second thought, were you referring to adding these icons to all respective links here on GuildWiki? That is of course easily done by copying the relevant lines minus the .interwiki to your css &mdash and maybe we just ought to enable that site-wide. For everything but links to Wikia wikis, it'd just replace the "external link" icons anyway. --◄mendel► 11:59, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and which one is the one you like - top, bottom, or both combined? --◄mendel► 10:56, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
I meant that instead of having the .JS code which builds those tabs, I'd use this so I have little graphical links instead. It's only for my own personal usage anyway. Entropy Sig (T/C) 22:27, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
I've looked at your monobook.js , the way that works means your tabs are compatible with these interwiki links, even if the links are at the top. --◄mendel► 23:30, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

adding wikis

If you feel this feature should extend to another wiki, just add it to the table on the article, and I'll do the rest. If it's under your control, you could also ensure that the wiki has a distinctive shortcut icon ;). --◄mendel► 12:04, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Decisions

At this point there are some decisions to be made:

  1. What languages and Wikis should be shown by default? Users can customize, but I believe we should show some languages and links to advertise the feature and make the common options available for anonymous readers.
  2. Where should the translations and links be placed? They could go on the article headline, or in a category-style box at the bottom, or maybe somebody has a better idea?
