What do you look for in an admin? What are the standards you would be an admin by or appoint new admins if you became a bureaucrat? --[[User:Mendel|◄mendel►]] 19:19, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

:I look for someone that I can trust with admin powers, for one. Someone who knows their way around the guts of the GuildWiki and want to help improve things. Also they need to be able to listen to and talk with the community and the other admins to plot out the best course for the GuildWiki. Revision as of 11:28, 20 February 2011

Opposing and Double-edged Qualities

  • Familiar duties prohibiting availability: This a concern for any candidate with a family (or other obligations such as school). I believe that's also why we have more than one b-crat, so any one person isn't overwhelmed (at least in theory). All I can say is that I'll do my best to be available, and if I start lacking the time needed to devote to the wiki, I'll let everyone know.
  • Tends to support Dr. Ishmael in conflicts: This is probably the bigger concern held by contributors to the wiki. It's true that I'm a little biased towards Ish (as he's my husband) but also since we're in the same room together he's able to show me what he's doing for the wiki, giving me a better understanding of what's going on. We do share discussions about wiki issues, but they're held in real life, thus they are never seen by the rest of the community. There have been times when we had opposing viewpoints about a certain issue, or when I've asked him to tone down his responses. What I can do about this is to be sure to post a response regardless of agreeing/disagreeing on an issue, so the wiki can see that I'm not giving him special treatment.

One thing I will say is that I have the wiki's best interests at heart, as do most of the contributors. But sometimes we have differing views on what exactly is best, and sometimes we can be really really stubborn, and sometimes that leads to conflict. To combat damaging arguments, we all should do our best to communicate with each other and assume good faith in everyone. I will do my very best to adhere to this. Jink 19:37, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

I didn't consider the second point the main opposing point for me, as I have seen you kick Mendel's ass with a post, and saying at the same time "Don't think the Dr. is getting of easy, he is getting it at home." I trust you in your neutrality.
I am concerned about one thing, though. The Dr. is always around. Always. And I know Felix is there, even though we don’t see him. He posts enough, and apparently lurks enough to know whats going on. But I am not sure I can say you are always around.
I hope you can convince me of this, and then I will move to support. (wich I will do gladly) Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 19:47, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, if I'm not watching RC, I know Ish is. Often I can just look over (or IM) and ask what's up. If something big is going down, he brings it to my attention. I've started lurking on IRC more (tho' I tend to turn it off when nothing is happening to conserve system resources). And I've gone back to work on the armor galleries. I don't know what else would really show that I'm around, if just lurking. Jink 20:07, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
I consider that enough. Even if you are not on, chances are, Ish is. And there is a short chain of communication between the two of you. Moving to support. Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 20:19, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
"Tends to support Dr. Ishmael in conflicts" -- one of my hopes in nominating Jink was precisely that she would be best able to have conflicts with him; I never really managed as he seems to reach a point where he refuses to keep discussing with me and just gets angry. That's where I wish I could have some facetime with him and not just wikitext; I think we'd have got on better then. --◄mendel► 21:22, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
aka you want her to be able to drop the hammer on Ish when you can't? --JonTheMon 21:39, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Questions (to Jink, mostly)

Why isn't this RfA on the sitenotice? --◄mendel► 19:19, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

To Jink 1: What are the great traditions of GuildWiki, in your opinion?

What are the great traditions of GuildWiki, in your opinion? As an admin or bureaucrat, we'll expect you to uphold ... something, and I'd like to know what it's going to be. --◄mendel► 19:19, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Completeness and thoroughness are two of the GuildWiki’s traditions that come to mind. I know this hasn’t been the case lately due to competition from GWW, the announcement of GW2, and the move from Wikia, but I hope that contributors will continue to strive for completeness. Who knows if GW1 will continue to evolve after GW2’s launch, but if it does, we’ll be there to document it. I fully endorse completing our information as thoroughly as possible, and I hope that such can be done during my tenure. Jink 21:14, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
