Revision as of 21:56, 24 December 2008

I want this party to be held. I'm going to found a guild and buy a guild hall if there is no other way. And it's a bad idea to delete the preparations page just because someone decides they don't want to host it any longer. So what date should it be? The time is likely to be from 9 pm GMT (4 pm eastern) to whenever. --◄mendel► 19:23, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

x means you can probably come if the party is on that date.

We never said we wouldn't come; just that he is out of town from 19-24, and I'm gone from 26-3. --Shadowcrest 20:15, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
It's not a party if I'm not there. Blah, fine. I'll go mark the 25th. >.> Entropy Sig (T/C) 03:56, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
I can't go any day from the 24th onward.--Łô√ë Fear.îğá†ħŕášħ 04:19, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
You guys start this right when Hanukah starts... Too bad. That means I can't come. Probably gonna be off the computer for a week or so because of Hanukah (Gonna go up to my cousins house, to celebrate). LostShadow 04:25, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't like the choice of day either but it really ends up as whichever day the most people can come...I don't think we'd have enough party stuff for more than one party, and people are running on tight schedules. >.> Entropy Sig (T/C) 01:44, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm really sorry, but that's how it is - 2 out of 3 years you'll be fine as Hanukkah is earlier then. The problem plagues everybody else as well as the Christmas holidays are family time for some, so we're not free on all of these days either. But on the other hand choosing days outside the Christmas / Wintersday time means it's not really a Wintersday party. (I have no objections to having parties outside of Wintersday, but this one shouldn't be). --◄mendel► 20:09, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Hum, Christmas is looking like the day, I guess. Unfortunately then I can't make it as my family is in charge of Christmas this year, AGAIN. Which also means availability is limited before and we'll probably be cleaning up on Boxing Day. Say, Wintersday also encompasses New Years, dunnit? I don't suppose that setting the party around then is doable, is it? That'd be great, for me at least, and it might be good for people who need to set up for/are going away for Christmas/Hanukkah/whatever. Qing Guang 01:06, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I've got some fireworks left over from... whenever the event was that we got them. Not sure which day i'll be there, though.--Darksyde 08:16, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

I will be there whatever day it is. We celebrate here on the Winter Solstice (the 21st this year). Whatever day you make it, I will be there. It is so nice to be in control of my own family for a change this year, No in-laws, and not my family either. No forced merriment with people who we don't like or being dragged to a church we do not believe in...er, wait got off on a tangent there sorry! Point is, you tell me when and where and I will be there!! Great, now I am starting to rhyme!!!--Saphyre the Wiccan 19:17, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion

How about announcing this in the Riverside Inn or Community News, Contests, and Events forum of GuildWarsGuru? You would get more people and more fireworks/alcohol/consumables/etc. Unless this was supposed to be a small party for Guildwikians. Misfate 15:59, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Thats actually quite a good idea —MaySig Warw/Wick 16:01, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Well this was supposed to be for GWiki people...it's not that I would mind more people, but having a suitable amount of party stuff becomes a problem, plus the fact that "we" wouldn't know "them" so the party may get kind of segregated. Also, because of the limit (see below section), we'd be holding it in an outpost...that means that we'd need to stay together and kinda have the place to ourselves, and the more people there are the harder that would get. I dunno. I guess it depends how many people can actually come - there's <10 right now so a few more wouldn't hurt. Entropy Sig (T/C) 04:33, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Guild Guest Limit

iirc, you can only have up to 10 people guested at a time. Which might pose problems if you want more than 10 people not in your alliance to show up. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 21:24, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Maybe you can host it in an empty district somewhere instead of Entropy's guild hall. How hard can it be to find an empty district in a dying game? Misfate 21:27, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Shoot, I didn't realize there was a limit. The problem with using an outpost is that people don't necessarily have it, or even have the appropriate campaign. I would suggest Ice Tooth Cave, since it's deserted, snow/icy, and close enough to Lion's Arch so that a few of us could set up group runs there. The problem is that people without Prophecies would be excluded, and I really don't like that idea. Felix Omni Signature 21:38, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
So we do the big mule alliance? --◄mendel► 22:54, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Edit ConflictQQ:Wish we could crash Wona's estate in the Togo BMP mission. It's big and winter-y. Lol. Maybe we could have it in the back-area of Zaishen Challenge? It's a Core area and has a nice waterfall, although it's not snow/icy. The big mule alliance thing sounds good, although people might have to leave their guilds or leave their alliance. Misfate 22:58, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with my mule leaving my guild, and everybody's mains would get guest invites from the mules. --◄mendel► 23:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Proph isn't core, but it's snowy. But EotN is even more snowy. So if we can't find a decent core place, go for Proph EotN. But Hero Battles looks soooooo much more party-like than Zaishen Elite. But w/o the ability to use foreign districts...--Darksyde 14:00, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
It looks like my international ban has been lifted as of last night. Entropy Sig (T/C) 01:51, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
I feel that fewer people would have no EotN than those who would have no Proph... especially since Prophecies is now $10. Felix Omni Signature 01:57, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
That doesn't even make sense: Proph is cheaper than EotN so less people will have it? --◄mendel► 02:41, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Mistake with double negatives i guess, fewer ppl have eotn than prof. also eotn needs another game to get so, blah, just more stuff supporting more ppl with profAkbaroth 18:26, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, fortunately this year I have all games but not everyone does (and EotN is probably a lot of people's last priority, I would think). I vote GToB - lots of open space and it isn't all that bad really. Pity we can't use fireworks there, na? Oh, and Traditional Chinese is one of the best districts - my guildies and I go to China when we're having lag or playing hide and seek (haha), and I've seen about 2 other people there, total. Qing Guang 01:00, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
(had an idea) Hey, maybe we could set up a chart on the page for who would be able to go where, kind of like the availability chart? Qing Guang 14:42, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Or We could just make it simple. Have it Ice tooth cave and i'll run anyone that doesnt have it there. Ideally in groups of more than 1 but whatever. Its a nice cosy, quiet town with lots of snow, alternativly we could do marhans grotto and i could run people from Droknars to marhans, if you want something a bit "lighter". Happy to help Wild... This is Cake Townz! 16:24, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
The problem then lies with people who don't have the prophecies campaign. You can't run someone to somewhere in a campaign they don't have. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 16:49, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
But surely its the one the most people own? Ah well either way let knoe if you need me to be designated driver for the party. Wild... This is Cake Townz! 18:16, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Here, I'll set up a chart and we can check off what campaigns we have, then see what the best place is. Also, looks like Christmas is no longer the day most people are available, yay! Qing Guang 18:25, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Or rather, I would have, except for some reason my edit refused to show up, so I got rid of it (in case I had mixed up the page at all). Qing Guang 18:37, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
I'd just suggest to all participants bring sweets, tonics, drinks and party points we can mix up. And I don't understand why u people can do it on Xmas day, or is it typical for Americans to party with their family on another day? If so, then nevermind. Meraida 11:36, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
We're just impious liberals. Entropy Sig (T/C) 18:05, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Actually, if you look at the chart, the days most people are availabe are the 22nd and 23rd. The only person who could not go those days is Felix, but of course that would pose a rather large problem as I believe he's doing the raffle. The other most available day is the 29th, which excludes Shadowcrest and Bob the Hick. I still don't know why no one's considered any date after the 29th, though - doesn't Wintersday run through New Year's or the day after? So it would still be technically a Wintersday party, and as far as I know most people don't celebrate New Year's until evening time really. But anyhow... there are apparently a ton of people who haven't marked the chart - maybe they are available all days? I dunno is happening. Qing Guang 06:12, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
I have no idea when i'm going to be capable of joining you, (it depends on multiple things) so idint sing up Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 10:18, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Qing, I made the chart by rule of thumb, feel free to extend it. The 31st would go into New Year's for Europeans most certainly, and up the 20th the holidays haven't really started, so I steered wide of those dates. Also, anybody who wants to come to the party and who doesn't have Prophecies should definitely either order it now or shout very loudly and suggest an alternative setting. --◄mendel► 11:42, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'll do that probably after school or something, or at least I'll try. Qing = wikicoding failure, ha. My last chart was based on a copy/paste of that one, and it didn't even show up, so... but I'll try. Also, yeah, we've all been considering the Proph-less people, but we haven't actually heard any of them speak up, so maybe there aren't any/they aren't that set on coming? So the cave sounds like a good idea, I guess. Or we could try the Deldrimor War Camp, that's nice and snowy. But yeah, looks like Southern/Northern Shiverpeaks is the place to go~. Qing Guang

Date (again)

Removed statement that Christmas appeared to be the best date because, as the chart now reads, it is in fact the second least popular date, after Boxing Day. Sooo, are we ready to set an actual date yet? I believe the 22nd and the 23rd are the most popular, although Felix is apparently unable to attend, which would interfere with the raffle (postpone it a while?). Or should we wait for more data? Qing Guang 00:28, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

IP guests

I see no problem with guests who don't sign with their Wiki username (or don't have one); as it stands, we can't keep them from coming, and it is nice to recognize the name when they do attend. Nowhere is it stated that this is a party for editors only; for my part, Im be happy to welcome our readers, and unlike Secret Santo or the Raffle, we don't even need any means for contacting them. --◄mendel► 21:58, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Falling One, the "1 time around the world" is UTC, the Universal coordinated time, which was "invented" by amateur radio operators, if I recall that right, because they needed to be able to log transcontinental connection times so both stations could find them. You can set the wiki (Recent Changes, History, and your watchlist) to operate in this time; the signatures use it by default. UTC is basically the same as GMT, whic his the time Great Britain uses in winter. If your time zone is GMT+1, you add 1 hour to the UTC time; if it is GMT-5, you subtract 5 hours. It is really that simple. The times are not fixed in stone yet. --◄mendel► 00:39, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
