Contrary to the description, this spell actually shadow steps you to a random location in the area, not nearby.
Consider using this with Shadow Form to counter the lost health.
If the location that was chosen was blocked, either by NPCs or by map objects, you will not Shadow Step, although the animation will show when you do; this is similar to Shadow Stepping into an unaccessable area.
Useful while running. When completely body blocked (totally surrounded by enemies and unable to move), use this to get away and get a nice heal on the way.
