These candy canes were available from collectors during Wintersday 2005 and from Winter Gifts during Wintersday 2005, Wintersday 2006, Wintersday 2007, and the Secret Lair of the Snowmen reward chest. Peppermint Candy Canes completely remove Death Penalty, but cannot be used in PvP. They are commonly referred to as CC's.

Peppermint Candy Canes are often used in long or difficult PvE instances, during which high Death Penalty can build up. Examples include The Deep and Urgoz's Warren.

• The name of this item used to be "Candy Cane." All Candy Canes in players' inventories were automatically renamed "Peppermint Candy Cane" in early December 2006. This was to distinguish them from two new types of candy canes introduced during the Wintersday 2006 event, Wintergreen and Rainbow.
