It is usually a bad idea to use this skill if you'll still be above 50% health after the initial life steal, as it is in that case essentially a less powerful elite form of Vampiric Gaze.
The skill combines well with sacrifice skills and Awaken the Blood, as they allow you to reach the desired health level sooner than normal.
Rip Enchantment and Dark Pact are especially useful with this spell,as both require a sacrifice and are relatively spammable.
