Introduced in Guild Wars Factions, shadow step refers to the ability to move instantaneously. It also once referred to a specific skill available in the Factions Preview Event named Shadow Step, but that skill has been renamed to Shadow of Haste.
For a list of shadow step skills, see the shadow stepping skills quick reference.
Special event shadow steps:
Limitations and restrictions
- If a user shadow steps while holding an item, the user will automatically drop the item before shadow stepping.
- Users may not shadow step to locations that they cannot normally walk to. For example, users may not shadow step past closed gates to enemies. This differs from regular teleportation.
- Shadow stepping does not have a distance limitation unless you would shadow step over impassible terrain, in which case the shadow step is restricted to the radius of the radar.
- Also, if you shadow step while activating a skill, the skill's activation will be canceled when you shadow step (with the exception of Augury of Death).
Notes
- Shadow stepping makes it very easy to move up and down from ledges, as long as there's an enemy/ally (where applicable) at the valid location you want to go to.
- Some trade scams involve the use of shadow stepping; when the victim drops an item on the ground, the scammer will shadow step to them and pick up the item.
- Also see teleport.
