Spirit spamming means to spam spirits during a battle. Spirit spamming has the same connotation for the two kinds of spirits in the game: Nature Spirits and Binding spirits:

  • For Nature Spirits: The spirit spammer is a ranger who specializes in keeping certain spirits up all the time. The spirits are either beneficial to the team's strategy (Favorable Winds for a ranger-spike team) or harmful to the other opposing team's strategy (Fertile Season against spike teams in general).
  • For Binding Spirits: The spirit spammer is a ritualist who tries to continuously summon spirits so that no particular spirit effect runs out. This is made possible by the skills Ritual Lord and Boon of Creation.

Prior to an ArenaNet update, Spirit spamming formerly made Global Tournament nearly unplayable. ArenaNet fixed this by limiting the number of spirits of one type present, in the spirit's radius, at a time, to one per team.

The pre-update Spirit spam tactic involved several rangers or ranger secondary classes continually stacking Nature Ritual Spirits until non-physical damage groups could hardly attack. As a result, prior to the update, unlimited numbers of spirits could be present in the arena.

Though less effective than before, spirit spamming, albeit of varied spirits, is still a popular tactic and option in build design.
