The mad king guards that spawn with you on this quest means that Rotscale becomes very easy to H/H. Farmable even as if you don't enter the mausoleum but instead enter and exit the area rot respawns the guards are still there.--Łô√ë Roar.îğá†ħŕášħ is hosting a Card Creation Contest! 05:03, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

Easy in what universe? I did it with a high output smiting build, a Dervish hero, a Protection hero, and a Warrior Hero, along with Alesia, the Mage, and Thom. I destroyed Rotscale's allies then used the statue of Balthazar to buff myself back down from 60% to 10% bonus and Rotscalle STILL wiped my party SEVERAL TIMES including the Mad King's Guards.
I've done it twice with spirit spam and 3 Discord heroes - had a few deaths, but never wiped. You probably didn't have enough healing with just Alesia. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 21:58, October 28, 2010 (UTC)
The problem is he has too much HP and does too much damage. His Deathly Swarm does over 200 damage. And it still doesn't look like Arena Net is going to fix this issue for people without Eye of the North. If this is the way they are treating people now, I am CERTAINLY not buying Guild Wars 2.
If you have enough healing to absorb his damage, then it's just a matter of time. And Alesia on her own is going to fail at out-healing Rotscale, no matter how good your Prot hero is. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 22:36, October 28, 2010 (UTC)
It should be noted that I was using War's hammer build, and sabway. I wiped once when the smoke phantoms spawned, but had no deaths other then that first wipe. I was able to kill a single dragon the first try, and after the wipe I finished off the rest of the group.--Łô√ë Roar.îğá†ħŕášħ is hosting a Card Creation Contest! 00:28, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
I took a Stunning Strike build on my War (FGJ + Spear of Fury, but natural resistance) and had Discord once, and Ray once. Henches: Me, Mo, R, N. One wipe with Discord (didn't flag my heroes, so they all got nuked by Desec/FoC. Oops). Henchies had the odd death now and then.
Oh, btw, he does not take double Holy damage. Ray was rather underwhelming as such, but it owned his minions. --Vipermagi 10:19, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

Eye of the North required?[]

Tried to run this with my Prophecies account which does not have EoTN, upon entering the mausoleum I was returned, alone, to ToA, while the rest of my party which had EoTN was able to enter the crypt.

Any info on this? I'm going to try again and see if same result occurs, will update..

No update has addressed it. I assume it is intentional because it hasn't been addressed in a week and there was ZERO reason to add it to "Depths of Tyria" instead of making it an independent area.
They have corrected this bug with yesterday's update. EN is required no more.Sotaknuck 12:01, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

"Expect to get your butt handed to you"[]

[1]. Except I had two deaths (deaths. Not wipes) in the whole dungeon. It's not that hard. --Vipermagi 15:08, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Whee, more stuff. Fairly sure the only difference between having this quest and otherwise, is that their locations are fixed (they will always spawn in a semi-circle, rather than in a tight cluster). The assortment of undead always spawn there. --Vipermagi 16:10, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
I've only fought Rotscale once, when vanquishing the area, so of course I don't remember all the details of what spawned with him. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 17:07, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
Sometimes Rotscale body blocks you so you can't run by, and if you try to run by, you could well be in trouble. And sometimes Rotscale doesn't body block you away, so you can run right by.
In the dungeon, there are a bunch of small groups, but they can be tricky to pull apart, as if you pull one, sometimes the candy corn allies will run up and grab several more groups at once. One group at a time is easy, but five groups at a time is not. Quizzical 03:26, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
I did wipe twice on rotscale and twice inside the dungeon, but it was still not particularly time-consuming or frustrating. Felix Omni Signature.png 08:30, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

What about shadow stepping?[]

It surprises me that no one's suggested using an ally-targeted shadow step like Death's Retreat to bypass Rotscale and reach the mausoleum entrance. I believe all the inanimate-and-faceless-yet-green NPCs are still considered allies. Felix Omni Signature.png 22:14, October 28, 2010 (UTC)
