Giants vs. The Great Giants[]
Just thinking out through my keyboard here; but couldn't the Giants and The Great Giants be the same thing? All we really know about The Great Giants is what is mentioned in the manual: "The Great Giants (species Giganticus Lupicus according to human scientists) wandered the barren landscape of Tyria thousands of years before any other sentient life. Excavations place these mysterious mythical creatures at about 10,000 years BE. Most Tyrians do not even think of these ancient myths anymore. But those who study history believe their existence was quite real." I wonder if that last line was meant as a teaser, so that when we encounter the in-game giants, we discover that those who study history were in fact correct, and The Great Giants weren't as mythical as everyone supposed (just very reclusive). --161.88.255.140 18:04, 19 April 2006 (CDT)
- Doesn't convince me. The denizens of Thunderhead Keep, for example, seem quite familiar with Tundra Giants. Why would such a well known species be a matter of dispute amongst Tyrians? I think the manual is referring to the source of the huge ribcages that litter the Crystal Desert. — Stabber (talk) 18:35, 19 April 2006 (CDT)
- Good point on Thunderhead Keep - I agree, that blows away my speculation. But, I don't think the ribcages in the desert would be them either. The Margonites travelled in that area 'hundreds of years' prior to the current period, and at that time the desert was mostly covered in water. From that, I had always believed that the ribcages were from some large whale-like creatures. But the history of Tyria places 10,000 BE as the last signs of the Great Giants walking on the Tyrian continent, not swimming near it. I suppose that the desert could have been above water, then sank, then risen again; or the creatures could've been fish-like, but with legs. There's really not enough to base anything solid on. --161.88.255.140 18:51, 19 April 2006 (CDT)
- You are probably right that the ribcages are from aquatic behemoths, but I remember reading somewhere that the skeletons of whales and such aren't found in the deep seas because they sink so deep that the water pressure pulverizes them. Some of the Crystal Desert bones are also distinctly non-aquatic, IMO, what with well defined horns and mandibles. But IANAO/IANAB. — Stabber (talk) 19:37, 19 April 2006 (CDT)
I think Ettins and Trolls are Ogres, not Giants, so they should be removed for the description.
