January 2005 posts[]

I would be happy to start a project to add earlier news items (such as from Jan 2005, and perhaps earlyer) if it would be helpful RT | Talk 18:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

June cleanup and early July posts[]

As you can probably tell, all the June articles are gone, I figured since it's July, get them off the main news page, did the same on the little table thing too. I also added news articles (hopefully the right format) for July 3rd and 5th. Please correct them if needed. Archmaster936 (talk | contribs) 13:00, 5 July 2007 (PST)

Start fresh or what[]

Are we going to add older news posts here aswell? | Chuiu 17:29, 21 April 2006 (CDT)

The answer depends entirely on whether we can find a chumpperson bored enough to do the dredgework. — Stabber 17:30, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
Or a bot that reads stuff from the official website and writes to the wiki? Not that I'm advocating for adding the olds d-: I'm currently neutral on whether we should do it or not. -PanSola 17:35, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
I think we should backfill at least to the beginning of this month. --Rainith 17:36, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
Already in the process of writing the damn bot, since it seems like I'm the only botmistress around these parts. — Stabber 17:36, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
Dredge work or drudge work? Seriously though, I think we should try to collect back to the start of April. --161.88.255.140 17:38, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
The pun there was intentional. — Stabber 17:41, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
Doh! I was getting ready to do it myself. I don't really do things like this by hand I use regular expressings to find/replace tags and what not to wiki formats. | Chuiu 17:45, 21 April 2006 (CDT)

Bot status: very highly irritating. No two news archive pages use the same format, and the format often varies within the same archive page. Thse news archives were clearly created by hand instead of automatically from some database. I don't think this is automatable without a lot more gruntwork. Better to do them by hand and not go all the way back to March 2003, I think. — Stabber 19:13, 21 April 2006 (CDT)

I have pulled in everything upto May 2005, which clears all the red links from the GuildWars.com news page itself. I'll also do the April 2005 news posts, which will take us up to the release date of GWP. I seriously don't see any purpose in going further back than that, but it's up to the community. — Stabber 07:45, 22 April 2006 (CDT)

RSS Feeds from Guildwars.com[]

Is there any way MediaWiki can take advantage of the new RSS feeds that Arena Net is putting out for Guildwars.com News and the Game Updates? I don't know enough about the software to even start researching it. If we could pull in the RSS news regularly, that would save all the dredgework and leave us to just make comments on the content. User:Beldin 5/9/2006 9:34 CDT.
Guild Wars doesn't get enough updates to justify the time to program automated pulling of its' RSS feeds. More likely, the editors who keep up with those pages will use the RSS feeds themselves, enabling us to post the new updates even faster. —Tanaric 21:39, 9 May 2006 (CDT)

I'm getting notices through my rssreader of news updates before they even go to the main site.. Seasonal Treats (Tue, 17 Oct 2006 09:45:52 -0700)

With Halloween just around the corner, you might be giving some thought to holiday décor. How about a Guild Wars theme for your Jack O'Lantern? Our talented friend, The Pumpkin Lady, has created a new batch of Guild Wars Guild Emblems to add to the set she created last year. You now can choose from more than 40 different Guild Wars pumpkin patterns. Check here (http://www.pumpkinlady.com/gwpatterns.htm) for the patterns and handy "how to" carving info!

I have a question. who or where do I send information to about Guid Wars news? I just received the newsletter from GW insider, which is slightly different from the webpage version, with info on the Halloween event this year. I quote... "In addition to the new campaign, players who log on and travel to Lion's Arch or Kamadan (the starting city in Nightfall™) October 27th – 31st may notice signs of the imminent return of a certain well-known but less-than-sane monarch, and a decorative theme befitting the season." --Shadow Lord 20:04, 20 October 2006 (CDT)

Wikify news?[]

Is there any special reason why we don't wikify news? Has there been a concious decision not to do it or are we just lazy? --Tetris L 01:33, 11 October 2006 (CDT)

Dunno. Most news articles aren't counted towards the article count because they don't contain internal links. I wondered this myself looking at the dead end pages list. --Fyren 01:46, 11 October 2006 (CDT)

Eye of the North[]

I know this page is for official news, but I figured if I mention it here one of you guys will know where to go next. I found an article about the next expansion for GW1. I say GW1 because they also mention the upcoming GW2 in 09-10. None of this is verified but is worth looking into out of curiosity. SourceRabiesTurtle (contribs) 18:11, 5 March 2007 (CST)

Guild Wars novels?[]

While reading the most recent Guild Wars News thing about the storyline, I noticed something about a Guild Wars novel trilogy.
