...? so whats this do? It absorbs first X hits on your character: Surtur Holl (farming Jahai bluffs, dead with 1 hp I resisted over and over again the first 10-15 strikes of all my enemies in the resurrection point. Included hammer, spear and fire dam)

Unrelated. there was an update (maybe a year and a half back) that means for the first 3 secs after ressing from a ressurection shrine, you are invincible. Test it out yourself, without the Aura on. ZerrisSig.jpg-Zerris-ZerrisSig.jpg(talk) 20:00, 24 February 2007 (CST)

I am positive one of the effects is that every single monster drops an item, so my guess the exact effect is different every time you use it.

My guildies claim that the drop rate of Gold items increases ... I have yet to confirm it though ... but that would really cool to have when you're in high-level regions, like The Underworld, and even Elite Missions. I should try it and see how it works out.-- 19:40, 16 February 2007 (CST) It definately needs a lot of testing. One thing I mentioned before (on the talk page for Lunal Fortunes) is the visual effect that seems to happen if you have the aura on for long enough. I can't be sure if it's merely a time-activated thing or what, I've only seen it once myself. I'll make sure to get a screencap when I see it again, for sure.

The article main page stated that the effect was "all monsters drop an item". I can't see how this could possibly be true... I've had it active and killed tons of creatures, and only experienced normal drop rates. Same goes for my guildmate, nothing but normal drop rates. There may be one possiblity... he did get a non-max green weapon to drop from one of the two bosses he fought with the Aura active. There's absolutely no way to prove this wasn't just normal luck, but perhaps some testing of this is in order? (although I can't imagine ANet would want to actually make an item that helps a farmer this much). {Jioruji Derako} 21:16, 16 February 2007 (CST)

Maybe it affects the drop rate from chests. I opened two Luxon Chests while under the aura and both dropped gold items. Again, that's hardly proof, but it can be tested further. Maybe there's a use for all those low-level keys I've hoarded after all... -- Quizer 23:14, 16 February 2007 (CST)

Article says something about this increasing the drop rate of greens. I'm working on farming the Unwaking Waters explorable area, with the 5 bosses all right next to each other. I'm making sure I have the aura every time. No greens yet. I'll keep track of the number of runs, but so far there seems to be no effect. Llava 01:08, 17 February 2007 (CST)

5 runs so far with no greens. If this increases the chance of a green dropping, it's either by a very small amount or I have horrible luck. That's 25 bosses total without a single green drop. Going to go ahead and remove the note in the article about it improving green drop rate. Llava 01:31, 17 February 2007 (CST)
I've done a couple of boss runs (8 total bosses) on the Barbarous Shore with no drops either. — Lunarbunny 02:11, 17 February 2007 (CST)

So the effect certainly isn't one of "monsters always drop an item" - I did a couple of farming runs with this on and saw no difference in drop rate. It's also not an xp bonus. My guess is that there's a __very slight__ boost to drop calculations (drops, chests, etc..) --Pork soldier 02:04, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Just went on a farming run w/the lucky aura. I do believe the drops were worse than usual. Now, that happens with farming runs it varies some, but if this helped drops by any significant amount, I would have expected to at least have a typical haul. --Rainith 02:32, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Lucky Aura makes your attacks critical, test it with an assassin, you'll notice you'll hit critical hits on each blow. --Angelo

Just tested this with Lucky Aura, Daggers, 12 Dagger and 14 Critical Strikes with 100 Dagger attacks on Isle of the Nameless. I got a critical hit 24 times, whereas statistically the average is somewhere around 31(14% Crit Strikes and 17% from having 12 Dagger, based off the Critical hit table. Getting that much lower than the average isn't unusual, just the weird way randomizing works, I guess. However, this doesn't show anything remotely close to a 100% critical hit rate. It may If anyone else can prove that this guarantees critical hits, I'd be happy to see, but unless it just doesn't work on daggers, I see no evidence of this claim. Light Cleric 12:20, 17 February 2007 (CST)
Tested another 100 hits, same stats, 28 critical hits. Light Cleric 12:24, 17 February 2007 (CST)
Tested it on a necro with Way of Perfection, definitely not critical every hit. --Roland icon.pngRoland of Gilead (talk) 19:04, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Katherine Pulaski - Lucky Aura.jpg

I took a screenshot of the visual effect (see right). It does not seem to always appear, though I did limited testing. --Delia Rashesh (talk) 09:02, 17 February 2007 (CST)

actually, within the time i had 'lucky aura' on me, i stubbed my toe, my nose bled, and the milk in my fridge spoiled. some luck.-- 13:02, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Another possiblity could be salvaging... perhaps you have a noticably higher chance of not breaking something when you salvage with this on? Just a wild guess on my part here.

With and without the Lucky Aura on, I had a 38% chance to destroy the item that I tried to salvage. So I do not believe that it affects you ability to salvage without destroying items. -AbsolutB Feb 19, 2007 8:28 am PST

As a side note... That's the second time I've had to change the effect on the main article page to "unknown as of this time". Seems that people are either A.) opening these outside of Shing Jea, then proceding to get unlimited critcal hits (which always happens), or B.) reading halfway down this talk page and assuming that everything written here was tested (such as the increased chance of a green drop, which I mention as a THEORY). Let's be extra carful with this one, eh? A lot of people don't know what this does, and will check GuildWiki to see the effect. I want to be sure that the effect written here is actually correct, so let's go overboard and test every possible angle. (don't forget to post test results and methods here, so that we know not to revert.) {Jioruji Derako} 14:26, 17 February 2007 (CST)

For what it's worth, I did a FoW run last night with this active. The first two Obsidian Shards dropped for me, but they weren't the only ones that did so. I didn't get any gold drops, but every chest I opened (three total) was gold... and in fact, every item that came from those chests was also gold. Overall though I didn't notice anything statistically significant. Zaq 17:28, 17 February 2007 (CST)

I can confirm that NOT every chest is gold. Vabbian chest dropped purple for me under this aura. --Roland icon.pngRoland of Gilead (talk) 20:26, 17 February 2007 (CST)
What possible effects are even left? So far, we've managed to confirm that every suggestion is not the current effect... another thing worth checking may be the possibilty of multiple, random effects. But I still think that the glowing aura you sometimes see is tied into the actual effect of the item... {Jioruji Derako} 20:53, 17 February 2007 (CST)
Maybe the effect, whatever it's supposed to be, is too small to notice (which would suck) or it is plain bugged and non-functional (which would also suck but wouldn't be the first time). The latter would be my guess at the moment. --Roland icon.pngRoland of Gilead (talk) 21:42, 17 February 2007 (CST)
Seems like they'd make it a noticable effect if they weren't going to say what it did and it was only available for one weekend (except for those who stockpile the fortunes). Llava 23:35, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Im pretty confident its rare crafting materials. I had 2 jadeite shards drop in kaineng with this on, someone should go into FOW/UW with it and check the Ecto/Shard drop rates -Rai 11:04, 18FEB 07 GMT

Went on six different UW runs (full aatxe/smite) with Lucky Aura on at the start. Nothing statistically "lucky" about those runs in terms of ecto/key/gold weapon drops -- in fact, in several of those runs I came out completely empty-handed. Didn't notice any discrepancy from the norm when chesting in the Shiverpeaks, either: same old purple/gold ratio as before.

I don't know why someone deleted the statement that the aura gives a guaranteed critical strike on every hit, but I tested it and it is true. It may have additional effects, however.

I'd imagine I did it because I tested it on 200 attacks(See above) and didn't get anything remotely close to that. It's also been stated above that you will ALWAYS get a critical hit on monsters <= level 2 NO MATTER WHAT. Also, I propose adding a tag or statement at the top of the article, saying that all stories and discussion belong on the Talk page. The article is for FACTS about the skill. Posting that you saw 6 golds drop is a story; that belongs on the Talk page. Light Cleric 10:52, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Dying in GW is pretty hard :P. I guess that someone could try dragging a character into DoA XD ~ GeckoSprite.gif Pae 13:09, 18 February 2007 (CST)
I was able to successfully die with the Lucky Aura on me (if you want to call that a success). DP acted exactly the same. -AbsolutB Feb 19, 2007 8:28 am PST

I think it increases material drops (or does random things). I was in The Eternal Grove earlier and got 2-3 times more material drops than I would consider normal. It did not affect death in any way. Note though that I had all three auras on me at the time. We saw one green drop out of I think 4 or 5 bosses (had two heroes with us). Argel 14:53, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Actually, it could be a combination of materials and things like claws (i.e. body parts). So maybe things collectors or crafters want? Argel 15:47, 18 February 2007 (CST)
This could be possible, and the claws, etc. could be the things needed by the Imperial Chefs for the feast?

I think we can keep speculating for a long time. Maybe there is not one lucky aura, but several different that look identical but do different things each time. Also, maybe it does nothing at all and the guys at ANet are laughing their ass off at our stupidity and speculation. I will watch this site and keep hoping that something turns up or maybe they'll give us a clue, but I won't count on it. -- Quizer 19:41, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Here's another not easily testable idea, but which could be possible... it might increase your chance to get "prosperous" (or 100g) from future fortunes. Only way I can think of for testing this would be opening Fortunes until you got it, then checking % chance of gold, and opening and checking % chance of gold till you got it. Then add them up and look for a pattern. Zerris 19:59, 18 February 2007 (CST)

It might be nothing, but I had an idea tonight. I opened a birthday gift with Lucky Aura on, and got a gold mini. Shiro, if that matters. My only other gifts have both been whiptail devourers, so I might have just been due to get a mini that doesn't suck. But my idea is that any random things (birthday gifts, wintersday gifts, etc) might have a higher chance to give you rare items.Nub 00:56, 19 February 2007 (CST)

Just a thought. When you receive the lucky aura, the message proclaims "Something special is in your future!" Has anyone just left this aura on and done nothing to see if anything occurs after a period of time? AbsolutB Feb 19, 2007 12:26 am PST

One I saw on Guild Wars Guru was that it increased the chance for Lunar Tokens to drop. Argel 03:56, 19 February 2007 (CST)

You know, I would actually believe that. Either that or they had a high drop rate at the beginning of the event, and then ANet lowered the drop rate of them later. I was getting a lot of tokens in the beginning as drops, 3-5 on a typical run outside to do one of the event quests, but I was also experimenting with the fortunes at that time, so I usually had the lucky aura effect. Now, I've stopped using those fortunes and I don't think I've had a drop today of a token, still doing the same quests (on different characters). --Rainith 04:08, 19 February 2007 (CST)
I think it increases luck in all areas of the game. Identifying, salvaging, drop rate, chests. if you want that gold birthday present use this. or to get that green drop use this. i could see this having multiple uses and might just increases your luck in general.

When you guys were testing the lucky aura, were you doing it while the visual effect was active? I'm wondering if the lucky aura only really takes effect while you can see the visual effect. After all, it does mention "the future" in the effect description.

AHHH god i wish i knew what this does!!! I think Anet really IS laughing at us right now! Why cant they tell us TwT Divinechancellor 01:40, 21 February 2007 (CST)

Maybe it just awards Lucky points? Someone who has one use it and check their title track.

For some players you say? I just checked one on two of my characters (one character who never used Lucky Aura yet, and the other which did), and no treasures... it's something to look into, but I don't think they're connected. Besides, it would defeat the purpose of "showing Factions some love" if the special effect of the item only worked in Nightfall... back to research, people! I say "for some players" because only half of my characters seem to be able to get those chests to drop again. See the Treasure Chest talk page for more info on that I guess... just speculating. 19:23, 22 February 2007 (CST)
I have noticed that my Elonian characters have had the chests reset. My Elonian characters did not ever have Lucky Aura on them. My main Tyrian character, who has had Lucky Aura on, did not have the chests reset. AbsolutB

We could send Anet a pretty letter asking kindly what the aura does o;Cracker 06:19, 22 February 2007 (CST)

I've already sent them a pretty letter asking for them to tell me, they are currently putting me in contact with someone to answer my question supposedly. We'll see...

I'm pretty sure that the aura increases the rate of drop on either all items or rare items (something to do with drops)

Well I'm starting to believe that this really has no effect...I've e-mailed them and both the original people I spoke with and these people they transfered me to help give me the answer, both are telling me they can't tell me anything about the gameplay...They all tell me to go to the fansites and bla bla bla I've told them I've tried that and no one knows but they are just giving me the run around...So good luck figuring out what this does...if it really does anything...

I guess it's worth mentioning...I've been running through Borlis Pass 2 times for some cross-checking. Had Lucky Aura on me 2 times and got a key drop when I was getting close to a chest 2 times, no increased dye drops though. I have 27 fortunes left, I'll see if it happens again, but it probably was just dumb luck.
EDIT: forgot to mention, 1st time was with 2 heroes, 2nd time solo. --Erszebet 12:49, 27 February 2007 (CST)

I actually had the same sort of thing happen to me. I was in Mourning Veil Falls and I got two key drops when nearing a chest. I was also with a full hench team. ~Eronth 22:27, 27 February 2007 (CST)

anyone try to open coffers in explorable area with lucky aura on?

Yes, and so far, it doesn't seem to make a difference in the drop rate. {Jioruji Derako} 02:28, 1 March 2007 (CST)

Was in a group that did the Foundry of Failed Creations. Two people (the BiP necro and an Ele) has Lucky Aura on the whole time. We got 4 Gemstones total. The necro got one, the ele didn't, which is relatively normal. Might benefit from more testing, but probably not needed. Also, we died to the group with the Fury in it, so that's not pointing towards lucky either. >_< --Zerris (talk) 21:09, 10 March 2007 (CST)

Just did the Boreas Seabed mission with Lucky Aura on. When one boss out of two of them were killed, the other members of the enemy group didn't res them; instead, they would res one of the non-boss ones. This is usually not what happens when I try to do that mission - maybe this was due to the aura?

Added thing aout celestial ox mini...i only got 2 minis and both times it was only while under lucky aura. -Rølin

That's probably because Lucky Aura is a much more common reward than the mini - 10% versus 1%. Unless you get the mini in <10 tickets, you will most likely see all the other possibilities before the mini. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 14:50, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Could this increase your Treasure Hunter title? I've been keeping track of my title, and 2 weeks ago, it was at 118. Just now when I looked, it was up to 162. No obvious effect on drop rate[]

Since an effect on drop rates were our prime candidate but everybody was just wildly speculating while providing hardly anything but anecdotal evidence, I have taken upon the task to actually test the hypothesis methodically. I have solo farmed the Elementals in The Hidden City of Ahdashim many times; to be exact, 6 times without Lucky Aura and 5 times with it. In each run, I have killed every single Djinn and Roaring Ether in the entrance hall, the central main hall with Shakor, the smaller area up north with the merchant, then to the west the gold chamber with Leilon. See User:RolandOfGilead/Drop Rate for detailed results by mob type. For my analysis, I have disregarded Roaring Ethers, because they obviously have very different drop rates than Djinns. For example, they seem to have a 0% drop rate for Salvage armor and Crafting materials, therefore skewing the total results if meshed together with Djinn drop rates. Under the reasonable assumption that Lucky Aura would affect all Djinn types equally, then this is the grand total of all drops:

Djinns without Lucky Aura Gold Equippable Items Salvage Armor Crafting materials Keys Collectibles Dyes Other Nothing Total Signature
G P B W G P B W Rare Common

Key and dye drops, although very different, should be disregarded here because at these low drop rates, it is not possible to draw a clear line between a hypothetical Lucky Aura effect and pure chance. If someone felt like proving otherwise, a much higher number of drops should be recorded, something like killing enough Djinns to get 20+ key/dye drops without Lucky Aura followed by killing a roughly equal number of Djinns with Lucky Aura.

The differences in other percentages are not large enough (in total) and not consistent enough (by mob type) to require Lucky Aura as an explanation. Therefore, I conclude that Lucky Aura has no effect on drop rates.

If you want to expand on these numbers, be sure to a) pick a high-level area with a significant chance of gold drops, such as the one I farmed, b) don't only kill mobs at the beginning of that area, because they have skewed drop rates, c) always clear the same rooms/regions of that area in each run in case of varying drop rates across different rooms/regions, and d) if you include multiple mob types, only use mob types with similar drop rates for your analysis and in any case give the detailed results by mob type. --Roland icon.pngRoland of Gilead (talk) 06:00, 1 March 2007 (CST)

Really glad someone bothered to do some proper testing of this, complete with methods, table of results and conclusions. Personally, I think we need a larger sample as you suggested. Be great if this could be expanded upon. Thanks very much for your time and effort. -- Karalin Fireball.jpg(talk|contribs) 17:03, 1 March 2007 (CST)
Yeah, good to see actual testing going on. It's very important I think to treat this the same way we treat the chest drop rates... you must decide you're going to record everything before you actually start, or you end up with all sorts of problems. Most of the time, people post here after they get a particularly lucky run, which only serves to prove the one effect of the Aura (Makes you feel lucky). Perhaps we can get some more actual data like this now? {Jioruji Derako} 23:03, 1 March 2007 (CST)

Well I got my Birthday Present today on my Necro (Funny thing it's my B-Day in real life, lol) but opened it with Lucky Aura on and got a mini Jade Armor so guess it has no effect on birthday present drops either...

I use it one day just before entering the Queen of junundu quest... only 3 gold items dropped (only :P) and the three of them were asigned to my ele.. The other party member got really upset ^^.

Hmm, but what if it only applies to locations in Factions? Argel 04:07, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

Has ne1 checked to see if it raises the chance that ur next lunar fortunes have a celestial rat? i know that by itself, the drop rate of a rat is .33 and the girl i saw get a rat, got a lucky aura first then the rat. so, my speculation is that if u get a lucky aura, do u have a better chance at getting a rat?

Activation of HCT/+1 20% attrib?[]

Tried to test this and at first thought "Wow, maybe this DOES make my +1 Restoration activate a lot more" but then I realized i had the Attribute booster blessing from the Fortunes as well. Now that i'm out of fortunes, maybe someone else can find out... --Dragonaxe 14:48, 7 March 2007 (CST)

I actually tested the +1 20% attribute theory a while back outside of the Temple of Balthazar. Put on Lucky Aura with Bortak's Bone Cesta (+1 20% Death Magic) equipped, kept creating minions from the target practice dummies I killed, then kept checking the levels of the minions I had. I think it's safe to say you can toss this theory down the drain, since I steadily received higher level minions about 20% of the time after prolonged testing :P

About the celestial rat, i gain it BEFORE i got lucky aura so i think it doesn't effect the change for getting a rat

Preliminary Conclusion[]

11-March: Looks like its main effect is 'you feel lucky'. Judging by the comments above, that effect was more pronounced early on and less pronounced now. Oye 05:46, 11 March 2007 (CDT)

True that. The more we research this, the less lucky people are feeling with this on... GuildWiki is bringing about the downfall of this strage effect! We must put a stop to it. --GEO-logo.png Jioruji Derako.> 14:24, 11 March 2007 (CDT)

Multiple Effects[]

I was hunting in the Sunjiang District with Lucky Aura on me three times. Two out of those three times I never had the special visual effect on me and the last time I had it on the entire time. That makes me think the theories about multiple effects is correct. There are probably X number of effects and which one we get is chosen at random. Some are likely better than others (duh) and I would not even be surprised to learn that some are even bad (I had that blessed effect and lucky aura on at the same time once and my party of three heroes and I got wasted). This one is going to be 'nigh impossible to determine. Argel 04:05, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

Well now we know atleast one purpose they serve...for this Lucky Weekend they have planned it says if you have a "bit o' luck" you can find yourself getting one or two unique drops from missions or explorable areas so they actually did make them do something finally. Good thing I got a good bit of them left...anyone up for some farming? >;-D

it wont be a part of the upcomming lucky weekend. Gaile Comfirmed what it does during the Canthan new year event. see my next post (new section below my post. -TehBuG-

Gaile Says...[]

Gaile confirmed during the Canthan new year event that the lucky aura does NOTHING. it is just a celebratory item. (too lazy to look for scources. if u want scources, go find it yourself :P Theres a good supply at guildwarsguru in the Gaile and Frog Conversations forum area.)-TehBuG-

In the chat logs Gaile stated that it didn't increase drops, not that it does nothing. Has anybody emailed her on this subject? It also looks like there's another luck increasing item being dropped for this weekend's St. Patricks Day themed event. 19:50, 15 March 2007 (CDT)

Other Games[]

World of Warcraft had a debuff called evil twin, an effect that was a reference to something else (Star Trek?). After months and months of deliberation most players concluded it was Blizzards way of saying, "Ha ha, it does nothing we just wanted to make you think." The description states "mysterious" and "perhaps", leading me to believe that it was all anets way of pranking its customers

It could be a bug or the aura, but my necromancer is glowing white like when you select yourself. - BeXor Bexor.png 02:55, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

Oh and no one in my party can see it but me. :S - BeXor Bexor.png 03:01, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________!I KNOW WHAT IT DOES!_______________________________________________________________ The lucky aura does exactly what it says it does: It makes your character FEEL lucky. They aren't ACTUALLY lucky. So, in your technical terms it "does nothing". It also makes an interesting effect around your character. And even if I am wrong, who cares? Whatever effect it DOES have is obviously too insignificant OR too specific to give a shit about. If people wanna use it thinking it increases their drop rates, then let them FEEL LUCKY. It's all in the description. ;) -Greg da king

Correction. It MADE people feel lucky. Now that we've over-analyzed it, it just makes everybody feel insecure. --Rollerzerris.jpg <!--Zerris--> 23:38, 27 April 2007 (CDT)

Has anyone tested to see if it changes the retention percentage for using a lockpick? The preceding unsigned comment was added by (contribs) .

Just tested lockpick chance on an Istani chest, before lucky aura 74%, after lucky aura... 74% :(

Better Luck at Games ?[]

has anyone tested this ?

Not too many games in explorable areas........

Affects fortunes?[]

I got the lucky aura, my next 5 fortunes were +100 gold, and the sixth was lucky aura again...

canceling out?[]

has any1 considered that the unlucky possesion spirit negates the effect of the lucky aura? perhaps some of the tests should be repeated ensuring that ONLY the lucky aura is on the player

if only...[]

If only the April Fools' update were true. Fortunes would be so much more valuable! Qing Guang 22:18, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

I wonder if this is going to be a running joke every April Fools, Anet "balancing" Lucky Aura :P --Macros 22:20, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Affect Chance on Miniature Celestial pet[]

I had 175 Lunar Fortune and had about 30+ times Lucky aura/your new year will be prosperious and for 175 it gave me 3 celestial (this year tiger) friend and many other used over 200 tokens and got less, and i used 50 gifts before and didnt get any...and i did notice i didnt have lucky aura...or maybe u need 5-10 aura's for a pet? just a suggestion please comment on this --Creazn 13:11, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

No, Lucky Aura has no actual effect. The fact that it is much more likely to receive Lucky Aura than a Celestial minipet essentially guarantees that anyone opening Lunar Fortunes will get the Lucky Aura (and Lunar Blessing, and Spiritual Possession, and all the fireworks) long before seeing a minipet. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 14:52, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, so I didn't think this did anything, but I had it on me while on Shing Jea, and everything was dropping shit. So I decided to test it in UW... First run with this on, I got three ectos, solo, only clearing chamber/aatxe area, as opposed to my normal 1 every 2 runs of doing that. Second run, I got another, but died shortly, third and fourth I screwed up again and died too fast. Fifth I got an ecto. Me and a friend went into UW.... I think three times with this on. Between the two of us, we got four, three, and five(One of the runs dropped an ecto on the second enemy). Plus like 10 passage scrolls, this was in normal mode. I think what it does is increase the chance of something dropping shit, not necessarily the drop rate of any specific item or group of item, but I think it increases the chance of drops period, 'cause we got a shitload of little loot, too. Anyway, we could've just been lucky, or it could've been the aura... Neat story, though. ;D--Darksyde 03:11, February 17, 2010 (UTC)
