In my opinion, if this chest will really make pve players go to pvp (which was the reason it was added obviously) then the cause justifies the means. However, it will cause a problem because it will encourage players to spend their faction on keys, when they should spend it on unlocks.

For anyone wondering what this is. One player pays a zkey to another player. The recipient then uses that key + 3 of his own keys to generate 4 drops from the chest. That player then maps out, leaving all (4) drops for the donor. This system works based on the motivations of the players. The chest opener is looking to gain zrank points, while the key donor is more interested in farming the chest for rare loot. With this method, both end up paying less than they would otherwise need to. However, the person giving the key is susceptible to scams, wherein the chest opener may pick up valuable loot rather than leaving it as he is supposed to. Of course, he could also simply take the key(s) and run. [[Special:Contributions/76.253.0.17|76.253.0.17]] 03:58, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

For people like myself who have 18 PvE characters, and 0 PvP characters, who have all skills from 3 campaigns and expansion unlocked (mainly through purchasing from skill traders), and still part-take in xunlai house tournaments. We no need for Balthazar faction as its useless to PvE characters (except for heroes, but when you have all skills unlocked anyway, its completely useless) and no need for Tournament points except for things like wintergreen swords and shields (but I have mine already). It is just a way for us to convert all that useless balthazar faction, and the useful-only-for-fancy-wintergreens tournament points into something tangible - in my case sweets and booze and lockpicks (for titles). Prolly right, ive seen increasing number in "Perfect" Elemental swords and Eternal blades in the last couple of days. And Temple is crowded with ppl spending all their gold on keys lolz. Jahora 22:10, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
A bad thing? Actually a good gold sink anet added. Who the hell cares if some stupid "prestige" skins become slightly more common? Besides its hardly every other drop is a rare skin. I've opened at least 15 times and haven't seen one rare skin. --Sefre SefresigTalk*Cont. 23:18, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
It's not a gold sink, it's a faction and tournament reward point sink, the gold just gets transferred if people buy them. In fact it's somewhat opposite to a gold sink, since it does produce items which are worth gold (but it's insignificant). Some people also think ultra-rare items magically make more gold appear into the game, that's also false. The more rare items come into the game, the less valueable or rare they become. No one will get obsidian armor any faster, except for those who were lucky and managed to take advantage of the temporary off-sync of prices for some ultra-rares, but that happens in any market change. I fail to see how the hell this could possibly cause an income gap. If the keys are so damn easy to get, wouldn't everyone be getting good stuff from it over a long span of time? it's more of an equalizer than anything. Rich people always have the ability to get richer, it's always been like that, but it's definitely not more the case here. Also that fact that the keys are easy to get is totally irrelevant. The issue is with how often the keys return ultra-rares.
Even the rareness I could care less about. Having lots of gold means dick all in this game, and there's no point of having only rich people hold some items just because they are rare (dwarven axes and other skins don't even look cool to many people). Hell I was one of the first to get obsidian, but I hardly wear it, since I think it's pretty ugly. Personally I think it's about time that crystallines become more common for people, so that players can get better customization of their characters... it's not like everyone would just want to equip a crystalline or eternal blade because they're the "coolest", by no means (although there may be a bias towards them compared to some other items, but that's the case with anything). People equip what they want, those items just happen to also be rare, making them expensive. Crystallines have been around for so damn long, there's very few people who wouldn't have had their enjoyment of owning and showing off it's rarity. Very few people are truly getting "jipped" by the values going down. --Xapti 08:34, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok, i support the first three reasons, but not the fourth one. I don't want them to have keys worth 15k faction or so, because it would unfair for new people and maxing your bath faction would be hard.--Dark Paladin X 03:04, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
I don't think fairness was a driving point behind this chest. -Auron 03:12, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

(resetting indent)I think it's fine as it is. In fact, I would argue for ditching the firewaters & creme brulees, and keeping the drops more consistently valid. The time investment to get 5k faction would net you over 1k in drops. What you're getting here is simply a key worth about 600g. Craw 04:28, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

In my opinion, if this chest will really make pve players go to pvp (which was the reason it was added obviously) then the cause justifies the means. However, it will cause a problem because it will encourage players to spend their faction on keys, when they should spend it on unlocks.

It wasn't added to make people PvP more, it was added as a use for excess balthazar faction Blue.rellik 09:59, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Which is something that has been asked for many times. VegaObscura 17:18, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, seriously, what the hell are you going to do with all the Balthy faction you have left over?! This is a great idea! Keep the chests, it's about time we started getting rewards for PvP (even if all the times I've used the chest have resulted in Creme Brulees). --70.176.247.196 02:41, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

What you're suggesting is to nerf one of the few rewards for PvP players, and the drops aren't even that good. Someone got a crystalline, someone got an eternal blade. Big deal, everyone else got nothing but a stack of alcohol and some crap tomes. 220.101.173.247 08:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Yup and ppl buy those keys for 3-4k - *laff* --Birchwooda Treehug 14:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
if you want to turn these into a gold sink, why not just sell them for 3k from a merchant? the drops aren't always that good, and many people (not the smart ones) will probably waste most of their cash on keys to get maybe one rare item, even now it still should work great for sinking away all the gold bought by n00bs from bot farmers unto the more experienced players Omnipresentgnome 21:13, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
The real problem is that the GW economy is completely uncontrolled, as the only real money sink is armor, this is just a way to reward pvpers basically, it doesn't address any of the problems in GW ---ie it's just a fun thing they added for people with extra reward points/faction to burn
Money sink = Guild Lord (services) RT | Talk - A joyous wintersday to all 08:04, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually there are a lot of money sinks in GW. Sweet Tooth and Drunkard Title Tracks cost much money if you buy the goods. Keys always remove money from the game because the drops are worth less than the keys. Buying crafting components at traders is another one. The biggest one i can think of are the festival games where you can spend very large amounts of money to get your gamer/lucky/unlucky title. Irkm Desmet 14:06, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

realy needs a nerf on my 3rd key i got a rweq 9 ele sword.. nice for me but the entire market will go compleatally to ruinsLodgeinator 16:48, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Then you're lucky. Last 4 keys have gotten me Flask of Firewater, which is completely useless unless you're one of those idiots who wants to be drunk in game because you're not old enough to drink in real life and find the whole idea just "so cool". Ohy. So no, the drops I've gotten in total have all been crap, so just because you got a good drop doesn't mean that everyone else is. ~ User:J J.Kougar 03:17, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Exactly my thoughts on the drunk title. All the kiddies going for Drunk title are the equivalent of a diabetic going for Sweet Tooth (which I'm going for right now, actually. I do drink and eat candy like crazy in real life. But I'd much rather have a sweet in my mouth than a mug of something alcoholic. Hence... going for ST!)
I concur. Just b/c you happened to get lucky on one of your first few keys, does not by any means imply that everyone does. I for one haven't received anything of particular worth and ive opened it close to 50 times already. --SLeeVe 05:28, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Skins which drop[]

I've noticed the skins which drop from it appear to be those available in Cantha as well as some well known core skins such as the Crystalline Sword and Eternal Blade. This makes sense given it *is* the Zaishen Chest. Jennalee 22:26, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I got a Mursaat Hammer, that's not Core or Canthan. Felix Omni Signature 08:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Non-Inscribable[]

Not all weapons that drop from this chest are inscribable. I just got a r10 Fiery Embersteel Blade and was elated. I IDed it to discover 19% deathbane and no inscription slot. I've also gotten non-inscribables with 19% deathbane from dungeon end chests, chests in Nightfall, and locked chests in EotN. It's not worth mentioning as a note, since this is a game-wide bug, but wow... I'm pissed. Felix Omni Signature 13:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Its a well known fact (apparently not well enough) that if a weapon without an innate mod (ie. whats in the inscription slot) drops from a chest where inscribable items spawn, the item will NOT have an inscription slot. No weapons spawn as drops with an empty inscription slot. --SLeeVe 05:25, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

The three mods part. I've gotten gold weapon drops with no mods. Gold just defines how good any mods on it will be. 76.224.18.8 07:00, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I just said it was a well-known fact, in other words. You should try reading past the first sentence. I was really just venting my rage; it didn't relate to the chest much at all. Felix Omni Signature 08:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Making PvP characters look more interesting[]

I think ANet is simply trying to make PvP characters look more interesting. Other than this (maybe Hall of Heroes chest I don't know I don't even have Hero's Ascent Unlocked) PvP Only accounts (people who bought the PvP versions of Campaigns have no way of getting unique skins because they have no way or farming or buying them on Trade as they have no way of getting gold. Now, every PvP Warrior in Random Arenas may not have the same sword dyed a slightly different color. Invincible Rogue 01:59, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think we should list it next to all the normal drops... it will apear it's a common drop, while there is probebly only 1 that dropped... -{[ PUL ]}- 21:23, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Could this be the what Andrew Patrick is speaking about in the last note?? HimmTaeguk (T/C) 10:15, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, if you interpret his words as can normally be found nowhere else, I guess you could say that. However, they're certainly not new items... Jennalee 16:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure this is what he was talking about. He said you can't get them anywhere else, and indeed, as of now you can't get them elsewhere. He never said anything about them being new. Silentvex 23:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

If you ask me...[]

SInce I have every skill and every item unlocked the only sensible thing I can do with Baltazar faction is buy Zaishen keys. Most of the drops Ive gotten so far were flasks of firewater, some creme brulees, a normal tome or two and hey ho twice a gold weapon. And the beetle juice thing. Personally I COULD NOT POSSIBLY CARE LESS about candy and booze so it kinda annoys me that I don't get tomes and gold weps more often... But hey,... It's just a game. Needed to say this though, I would have loved to see it drop random "bare" inscriptions or weapon mods, now THAT would make for "unique" drops from such a "unique" type of chest. *) PuppetX 19:28, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

just got ANOTHER fire water.... this is not encouraging me to do PvP a lot. PuppetX 20:54, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
At least this is here rather than getting all those tokens or w/e that you couldn't use =/ --Shadowcrest 21:11, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
PVEers are already complaining about the drops from this because they're used to having a monopoly on the money (just read up the page). If there wasn't worthless crap that dropped from it 75% of the time then they'd have to raise the price of the keys. I'm just happy I'm getting -something- tangible for my pvp time now. Silentvex 23:17, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Whatever pleases you. What do you mean with price of the keys? They cost faction... ? I've seen guys selling zaishen keys for 2,5k, kinda heavy for a Very Slim Chance of getting *any* req 9 item at all, and 90% at creme brulee or flask of firewater. Or even a normal tome. Thats about the worst bet you can make. But then that's not my problem. Just shows how silly people can be. PuppetX 22:25, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Well if it did drop rare skins more often then the keys would be sold at higher gold prices. Yes the keys do cost faction, but people sell these keys for gold. Prices follow some sort of trend. High chance to get good skin = expensive keys, otherwise they're cheap (still relatively costly IMO but meh). I believe ZKeys were 4k in the beginning - look at them now. --Call Me Rexy 11:44, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Really Rare Items[]

Ok I kinda think this quote makes the article TOTALLY WRONG

"While it has been rumored that the Zaishen Chest may drop rare items that can be found nowhere else, currently there have been no reports of any such items."

Alrite Now there has been a screenshot of a Everlasting Beetle Tonic Droping out of the chest ONCE Here is a Screen Now ALSO I have found that people actually HACKED the dat. File in Guild Wars and found some texting on items that can be found no where else is game. On dat file Text So it might be possible to get a everlasting version of each tonic. So far there has been only ONE and I repeat ONE Everlasting Beetletonic that dropped out of that chest. And seeing that the chest was released recently (as of December) Its still too soon on what might else drop from this chest. --72.178.138.105 17:30, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't see how that is definitive proof that they will drop. I could go and say giant squids can drop from there too without proof, but that doesn't make it true. Also: the everlasting beetle juice tonic is not zaishen chest exclusive as you can see from the [everlasting beetle juice tonic] page. No item that hasn't been acquirable through any other means has been found thus far, therefore it needs to stay.--67.164.57.79 23:55, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Can we also establish the fact that not everyone that opens the chest reports the drop they got to Guru? For all we know there could be a number of these incredibly rare new weapons circulating around - I imagine the people that have gotten these items already have kept quiet about it, not knowing/caring for their extreme value.

Removing the Zaishen Chest from drop notes[]

It's a valid location, and just because it drops most things doesn't mean you guys have to take it out of every frikken article, ESPECIALLY when if it's one of the main places where an item drops, such as for Crystalline Swords nowadays. Is there something wrong now with leaving correct and important information in an article? Jennalee 09:36, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I say, if it only drops from the Zaishen, UW and /or FoW chest: Note the Z Chest (and the others). If it drops from monsters and such, don't list. --- VipermagiSig-- (s)talkpage 09:38, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

She's gone...[]

According to Gaile, not all of the possible drops have been discovered. To me common sense dictates the second she quit her job this should have been removed. I'm taking it off and please say so here if you wish to add it back in. -->Suicidal Tendencie 13:34, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

To me it dictates she made that comment when she was eligible (? dunno if that's correct. Perhaps legible?) to do so. That she doesn't have the job any more, doesn't make it a lie :P Also, if it is true, maybe that's where the mysterious Acorns come from! Other than that: Common sense also tells me it's not true, since the chest's been there for so long. I'm fine with it not being there anymore. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 14:30, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, quite possibly a record for replying way too late. But I never said it was a lie... if she doesn't have her job anymore, what's to say she'll suddenly reappear and say "okay, you found the last one now" or something to that effect? The comment meant that she would tell us when her statement no longer applied. Now she can no longer do so. -->Suicidal Tendencie 15:41, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Not at all. Someone responded 3 and a half year late on a Guru thread. She can still say "Everything's been found now". She still works at ANet. But no point discussing that really, since the note is gone already :P --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 15:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Drop Graph[]

Can someone start a graph of the drop rate please???!?!

Quad drop[]

76.253.0.17 03:58, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
