Why does this template exist? I'm guessing there is some reason, or it wouldn't have had so many edits. Quizzical 02:03, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Clear basically creates a line break that skips to next blank line with nothing in it.

Technically speaking, "clear" is a css attribute used to position an element such that there are no floating elements to either or both sides. You can use it as style="clear:[right|left|both]"; this template use the "both" value in a line break, which effectively pushes the rest of the page text below any floating elements. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 02:30, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Usage[edit source]

{{clear}} is used to make text appear below floating boxes. By default, any text after {{clear}} appears below any floating boxes, but you can specify that only floating boxes on the clear|left or the clear|right should be taken into account.

If you need some space between two paragraphs of text, don't use {{clear}} — just leave a blank line between them. --◄mendel► 01:08, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed change[edit source]

<onlyinclude><div style="clear:{{{1|both}}};"></div></onlyinclude>

and also cat to subst'ed templates. The change would allow to selectively clear left or right, and work by deafult like it does now. Before the change is done, since this is a high-use template, it should get subst'ed at least into any other templates that use it (preferably everywhere). --◄mendel► 16:12, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
