Purge gadget[]

The clock produced by the UTCLiveClock gadget is a purge link for whatever page you're on. There didn't seem to be a need for a separate gadget to only produce a plain purge link. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 19:27, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Well now I feel like a right git! That's the last place I would've thought to look for a purge button though. Thanks for letting me know about it! :D → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 19:47, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, maybe a purge tab gadget wouldn't come amiss. --◄mendel► 21:41, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
While not really necessary (once you learn about the clock, lol) I can't see how having one would hurt, and it might just prove useful to other blind contributors :) → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 12:44, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for finally getting those done! I just didn't feel like it after typing up 95% of the quest articles the first time and 100% of them this time, and in between chapters I didn't even think about it. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 14:03, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

No worries. I was waiting until I finally got one myself to confirm the details. I'm still not actually 100% sure they can't be salvaged, but I'm not volunteering my daggers to test it, lol. I haven't actually started WoC on any of my characters yet, otherwise I'd help with the quests too. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 00:13, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
I'll be on the quests, sooner or later. I was being killed by college the past few weeks, but now I'll finally get round to WoC on my warrior. I have enough of several things to break a few weapons if neccisary. Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 08:42, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Rollback rights + Movefile[]

You now have both. Don't abuse them.--Łô√ë Gigathrash sig G.jpgîğá†ħŕášħ 07:37, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Ahh great, thanks! I only really wanted to be able to move files I've screwed up the naming on, so don't worry, I'll do ya proud ^^ → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 09:48, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Just be careful when clicking around on RC now - when you click on a "rollback" link, there's no confirmation, it happens immediately, so if you accidentally click on one... oops! —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 14:08, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I saw those links on RC, but I didn't click any as I wasn't sure exactly how rollback worked yet. Just as well by the sounds of it! But I've read up on it now, so all good. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 00:42, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank you?[]

For changing all those weapons? Or really, it's not a question. Thanks! Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 18:21, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

I have no idea if that was a question or a statement, but either way - no worries :)
Half of them probably weren't really necessary, but I figured I might as well go the whole hog whilst I was at it. There are still a few more to go, too. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 11:22, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
You made things "better". That makes it worth a thank you in my book. I can't wait till the time I have to filter your name out of Recent Changes again. Those are the good days. Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 11:31, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
*Ahum* Really, we needed that filter the last couple of days. GJ! Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 21:19, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
Poor RC never knew what hit it! lol. I still have Ancient weapons and Vabbian weapons to do, but I'm not sure what to do with the bows in those families. Create a navbox that links to all 5 types, or combine the bow pages into one, or combine them into 2 pages, one for each skin. Hmmm. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 00:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello! I want to thank you for everything you have done for the Guild Wiki. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Tesla, a wiki manager for Curse. The reason I am posting on your talk page is for some feedback. I was hoping you could tell me if there was something you would like to see on the wiki or if you think there is something we could do to help improve the quality of our service to the community. If you have any ideas at all, please feel free to stop by on my talk page and leave me your thoughts. Thank you! Tesla 03:40, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

lol you beat me to it. I took profile and side pictures to upload X-D 08:48, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

However.... I was going to use the dye preview as a imo better image view than the other. was gonna use my texmod to make / have the background preview white... would you care if I redid these photos? 08:51, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I would care. Not because of any sense of one-upmanship, but because the image quality offered by the dye preview window is generally poorer than Isle of the Nameless. The lighting is completely flat in the preview window, and IMO, doesn't give a true representation of the item. This is why almost all screenshots are taken in the Isle, as per GuildWiki:Style and formatting/Images. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 09:19, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
"Generally"... I have taken images on here of the same things via dye preview, just the same as isle. The only difference is the program to use and the file formatting. If you're so 'particular', You'd have "many" images to replace. Isles as per your link, is a recommendation and not a requirement. Now, I'm gonna finish my movie (only times I can watch a movie) and go to bed. I will be taking my own images and uploading them tomorrow. Not because of anything Poor, but because of which I plan to do this, will be taking away both usual backgrounds and be a "clear" background of which to show these items. It, imo, would look better, because it would not have a poor background effect that imo, as currently stands, takes away the default colors of these two particular items. No offense, but allow one to try before "knocking" it away. 09:59, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
1. Look, I don't know what brought that tirade on, but you asked if I'd care, and it just so happens that I do. I even went so far as to clarify why I'd care. Don't have a tantrum just because you didn't get the answer you were expecting.
2. Yes, I am that particular. That's why I've been updating any images I can which don't conform to the style and formatting guidelines.
3. What on earth are you talking about with default colours? the default colours are red and brown, the background can't take those away.
4. I've already seen what dye preview window screenshots look like. Have a look at GWW:Tricorne or GWW:Reaper's Hood to see how they compare with Isle of the Nameless shots. Preview window shots do not show the items as they appear when worn ingame, which is the whole point of these images in the first place.
5. It sounds to me like you're miffed that someone else uploaded the images before you did, even after you'd gone to the trouble of taking them. If that's the case, then please, grow up. There have been several instances where I've had screenshots all lined up ready to upload, and somebody else has done so in the meantime. You don't see me carrying on about my screenshots being better on their talk pages.
You're welcome to upload your images, nobody can stop you. I was simply advising against replacing mine because yours will not conform to the guidelines that have been decided by the users of this wiki to be the preferred style and formatting for images of ingame items. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 10:43, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
I have to agree with Morelia.
  • The Dye Preview shows the character at a fixed zoom level based on the part of clothing that is being dyed, which means it is impossible to achieve the same level of zoom that you can with the normal camera. (Granted, for headgear this is a small difference, but it is noticeable, cf. File:Tricorne gray front.jpg vs. GWW:File:Tricorne front.jpg.)
  • As Morelia pointed out, the preview window has completely flat lighting, which means you get absolutely no indication of how the item's material will interact with the "sunlight" that is common to most game areas, you get no sense of realism from the dye preview.
  • The "background effect" that you refer to again adds a sense of realism by way of providing a bit of perspective and scale. Your brain will unconsciously compare the background between the front/back/side views which allows it to conceptualize the "volume" of the object. Having a flat white background means you can only conceptualize the object's volume from the object itself, which is inherently more difficult.
The S&F guidelines grew into their current form out of multiple exhaustive discussions of these issues. Please don't buck tradition simply for the sake of bucking tradition. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 14:06, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Then you two have many images in the armor gallery to fix. Good luck trying to get some images 'perfect'. 15:13, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
You've missed the point of my argument if you think it's about getting everything "perfect". —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 15:44, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Lol, you sure are great with people ishmael. -Rask 16:22, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Obviously to Dark, it is. Either their way or not at all. My images (which I deleted), honestly looked better. Were up closer, etc. 17:32, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Morelia's images look fine to me. Jink 18:53, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
"Either their way or not at all."
No, it's not my way. It's the Guildwiki way. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 02:35, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
No, it's your way. If you had read the article you'd seen the "suggestions", else you'd be replacing armor pictures such as those of deldrimor, etc. As they are of the type that you "don't like" or "despise". Think again please and read carefully, before you assume and write. Thank you. 06:00, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Here's a better link, where they are called "expectations" instead of "suggestions": GuildWiki:Style and formatting/Armor/Art gallery#Image quality expectations. And it is NOT just "Morelia's way," it has been the overall consensus of this wiki for the past 3 years. So please stop making this a personal issue between yourself and Morelia. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 13:59, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm not making it personal. you two are. Tell this stuff to the others that used dye preview as their image takers and uploaded images. I followed "suit" with deldrimor ele, etc. so, yea. Have your fun Morelia to "correcting" all of those images that have been there for a "long" time, before the "suggestions", not "expectations" (there's a difference) were made into "expectations". Many prefer images via the isle, but not all images and everyone uses that. YOU said this yourself Ish, are you going back on your word? let it go. Next time don't be so hostile, Morelia, when someone wants to upload an image that they (he/she) might think that might help a bit more. Stop being so irritant. It's a wonder hardly anyone edits here. When they ATTEMPT, they get attacked and accused, hostiled at, but accused of it. so yea, I have a PROBLEM with usage style of words. Nice as I tried to be... isn't so nice anymore. I only wanted to suggest as this way imo showed more detail, not that it looked better, eve quality wise, but isn't "detail" what we were after? or was it not? I'm confused by Morelia and "perfection". You can't get that s*** with any game. Sorry, but yea... Have fun replacing images that aren't "perfect", especially when used via a dye preview. 08:42, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

(reset indent)

I really shouldn't give that blather the dignity of a reply but you're starting to piss me off now, and if you thought I was hostile before, you really don't want to piss me off. I'm going to get a bit hostile now, just so you know the difference.

  • Remember that you came here onto my talkpage and asked me if I would care, and then started behaving in a most disorderly manner when you didn't get the response you expected or wanted. There was nothing personal, hostile, or aggressive in anything I said, until you started getting so yourself.
  • I wouldn't have cared who suggested it or whose images were being replaced, I would not have been in favour of replacing guideline-following images with non-following ones. Had you or anyone else said you wanted to replace the current images with higher-quality images taken as per the guidelines, I would have been all for it.
  • It's not about perfection. No screenshot is ever going to be perfect, but they are expected to follow certain guidelines. In the absence of any images at all, images which don't meet the guidelines would of course be welcome. Anything is better than nothing. But why replace existing images with those which are not in the preferred style?
  • If you don't agree with the armour gallery style and format guidelines, then start a discussion there to try to achieve consensus on changing them. That's how things work here.
  • Replacing old images is basically what I'm all about on this wiki. Perhaps if you weren't so busy foaming at the mouth on peoples' talkpages or farting around in your own userspace, you might have noticed. I'm only one person, and I don't own every armour set in the game, but I will replace as many older galleries as I can. I appreciate your well wishes in my efforts.
  • Alternatively, try uploading your image contributions to Guild Wars Wiki, since they seem to approve of dye preview galleries over there. Provided you're still welcome there, since I seem to recall you starting the same sort of shit there as you have here, and getting banned.
  • If you think I'm going to tolerate your utterly irrational gibberish on my talkpage for much longer, you've got another thing coming. Have a lovely day. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 12:00, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I really have to laugh at you, but let me just point this out, "This page is a style and formatting guideline on GuildWiki." Meaning it's a GUIDELINE NOT A POLICY. So it doesn't HAVE To be by your specific ways, you and ish. That's what has me laughing at you two about, plus... Morelia, You're to use [[1]] for Armor Galleries of which you're working on. not the other. It has this "Do use an area with "white" light and a neutral background." It did not say DO NOT Use Dye Preview. Dye Preview can be "neutral" on some armor, etc. and help the armor show up better. "The best area for this is the northern beach of the Isle of the Nameless" is NOT always perfect for some armor images. It does say to not use the login screen (yay), but that was it on what not to use.
Secondly, I have uploaded images, helping out others and have found the dye preview on certain pieces of armor to look better than the isle and I have taken photos of both. Have a nice day. Ariyen 23:45, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

"I don't own every armour set in the game"[]

*cough* (If I had more time, I would utilize this myself. I have *used* it, of course, and it's perfectly legit.) —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 13:38, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I've seen that, but I'm not quite sure I trust it yet, or rather, trust Anet not to ban me for using it, lol. Plus I'm given to understand it will only affect the one client as texmod does, which means I couldn't use my two accounts to get the high-resolution images as I usually do. But definitely worth keeping in mind if anyone else is game :) → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 14:17, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
They won't ban you for using things like this. I know many people who do. A-NET won't ban you for using 3rd party tools like this, unless you gain some kind of advantage from it (botting, intercepting data and modifying it, etc.) The only point they make, is that they cannot/will not help you if you get hacked or something. And that stuff is safe, as far as stuff from the internet can be safe. Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 15:36, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, so you use that method. Still, you could use this for the armors you don't have and can't or don't want to buy, even though they wouldn't be as HQ as your normal ones, as long as they improve on what we have they'd be worth it. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 15:55, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I like using that gwdressup. Was able to find what I wanted for my pve necro. 04:18, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Awesome Job...[]

...with the hero armour images. I'd been meaning to do that myself. :) jimbo321 talk 21:16, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks! It's been in the works for quite a while, but I made a bit of cash from halloween and just went for it and bought the rest of the Primeval and Deldrimor pieces. It took a few hours just to take the screenshots, only being able to do 3 heroes at a time and coordinating 2 accounts. There was much flagging and gnashing of teeth involved.
I think all the aligning, cropping, and uploading took even longer, but it was worth the effort :) → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 00:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
I think so. was worth it for *you* to do it. :D Seriously though, they all look great. And notice how I'm not being a whiny asshat because you did it before I could? It must be a refreshing change! ;) jimbo321 talk 01:44, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Haha yeah, when I got the "Guildwiki page User talk:Dark Morelia has been changed" email I thought to myself, here we go again... but then I saw "by Jimbo321" and breathed a sigh of relief, lol. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 01:59, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Usually, we try to keep external links sequestered in the Trivia section (Notes is okay too, depending on the situation). If you could refine your edits on Rinkhal Monitor and Scytheclaw Behemoth to move those links out of the Description and into a new Trivia section, that would be great. (The prior version of the Rinkhal article was also breaking this "rule" and should have been fixed.) Thanks! —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 21:09, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

I actually sorta thought it should probably go in trivia. Will modify. → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 21:12, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Heh, should've trusted your gut then! Looks good now. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 21:24, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I have a bad habit of following however it's done on the page, rather than looking up how it should be done properly. I wasn't sure here because while it's certainly trivial information, it's mostly related to how they look. So I couldn't quite decide on Trivia or Description, but since the Rinkhal's links were under Description, I went with that. Ahh well, lesson learned (hopefully) → Dark.Morelia.sig.jpg Dark Morelia 21:40, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
