To-Do List update: Everything in "Delete" has been taken care of as much as possible, except for Unused Images, a huge load of stuff that will take days for me alone (help Marco!). "Edit" I haven't even touched since that is labor-intensive. "Patrol" is fine as of now. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 21:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I've been going through and deleting the images that got thrown into disuse after the unique template revolution. I've only gotten through, like 30 or so. (Help Entropy!)--Marcopolo47 signature new.jpg (Talk) (Contr.) 21:42, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
This is too big even if we both worked together...I mean it would still take days, or at least a few hours of non-stop deleting. I wish that we had a bot for it, or perhaps a "Batch Delete" option. I think I'll go bug PanSola about that. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 02:15, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
...Nevermind, not what I thought it was. Looks like it really will be all manual after all! >.> /resign Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 02:16, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
You just needs a bot that will delete everything with a certain category tag on it. Lord Belar 02:23, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
It's actually not as simple as that...I still have to check some of the images to make sure they really are delete-worthy, and that nothing links to them period. MediaWiki is pretty good at auto-classing things, but it does make mistakes now and then. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 02:25, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Maybe it would help if I become an admin? :) --Gimmethegepgun 02:34, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm sure it would. You can still help out with the other stuff if you're bored :) Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 02:39, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
I still have to finish up that project of mine (lawl, NF skills don't got no love from me!) but right now I'm about to try out Rappelz (thanks to being able to see ads on my relative's comp in Connecticut I saw it) and probably will be on this for a couple of days :/ --Gimmethegepgun 02:42, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

I GIVE UP - thousands of images to tag with the {{screenshot}}, copyvios that need to be sorted out, images which are debatably useful or un-useful...and that's just starting with "Imaged Without Cats". Such a mess...I gotta put this off for another day. Huoh. >.> Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 03:09, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

You need a bot.Ereanorsign.jpgreanor 03:50, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Shouldn't most be tagged under {{screenshot}}? Indeed, you need a bot <_<. Maybe poke Pan some more? Jennalee 04:41, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, almost all the uncategorized ones would want that tag. There's only a small minority which would use a different tag, "User-created image", mostly for things like RL screenshots and custom skill icons or signatures. But the bulk of stuff in there is armor, maps, and NPC/character images. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 08:12, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Ahhh ... the joys of admin retirement! ;-)
Sorry, I couldn't resist that. From what I can see of contributions by the remaining admins, this wiki still desperately needs some additional ones, preferably one or two who own a bot. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:43, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

...and I wish someone else would do/help me with updating the collector weapons quick reference ;_; Jennalee 06:17, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, you don't have to rub it in, Barek :p We need someone like Fyren who actually has the skillz to build a bot from the ground up...if that's not available, Gimmethegepgun is nearly as good as a bot :) TBH I would have a lot more work done if it wasn't, you know, rush time for college applications and stuff...ReaLife(TM) ftw. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 07:41, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Almost :P A bit slower, but on a whim I decided to overhaul the related articles of skill pages and spent the next couple of days making them consistent and all that. Never did the NF ones though, have to get around to that --Gimmethegepgun 08:46, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

As I explained on my talk page, on both wikis, I've already apologized. I was having a bad day in RL, and I was getting upset. So sue me for having emotions.--Marcopolo47 signature new.jpg (Talk) (Contr.) 01:29, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

What message I give to people isn't any of your concern. I frankly don't care about people unless they start failing; your outburst is unacceptable, because you're representing GuildWiki. If Eloc or some random user gave an outburst, I wouldn't care, because nobody cares about him (and nobody will connect his actions to GuildWiki). -Auron 01:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Auron, MP47 isn't my charge any more than Skuld is...was...ours. I'll check out the situation and make an assessment, but it seems you and other admins have already made a response, so I'm not sure what you wanted me to do...Also, Marco...don't take this the wrong way, but we're not talking about other people here. We're discussing your actions. Accusations of hypocrisy and double-standards have their place, but not in a personal issue like this. Also, cool it, Auron's not trying to bait you. I know he isn't your charge. But your chances of contacting him and having an influence are greater than mine. -Auron 01:47, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

(RI) Oh, Marco, Marco.../sigh, wikidrama ftl. Here's what I think.

  • You were already in a bad mood of RL when posting - not something to punish in itself, but also never a smart idea.
  • I think that it was simply extraordinarily bad timing that you got triple vandalized while your dispute was going on. Certainly this did not help your mood at all, and I am taking that into consideration when judging your actions.
  • Brains and other GWW users treated your acerbic manner with respetable, dignified responses, and it is clear that even though their patience was beginning to wear, they did their best to maintain an air of civility and reasonableness. It may have come off as pretentious, but they were only trying to help and doing their civic duty to the Wiki. I'm sure that they were somewhat hurt when you responded in such a harsh, sarcastic manner. While it is nearly impossible to empathize with someone over the Internets, that is no excuse for not treating others the way you'd like to be treated. (Although, Biro, that was probably not the most tactful time/way to ask...)
  • Technically, nothing you said was a bannable offense, at least from what little I know of GWW policy. However, it was toeing the line for NPA and just general asshattery. Like Skuld says, you're in someone else's home - you follow their rules, as much as you may dislike them.
  • Go reread the whole Wikia Move literature again...Phil definitely pulled some philandering (ha ha, soz pun) in his handling of the situation, but it is very, very difficult for any of us to prove that he or Wikia did anything illegal. Auron is also 100% correct about the license differences. Trust me, Marco, I was there when it happened: many, many users, even those that did not explicitly support GWW/ANet, put up the GDFL template because they wished for the Wiki's contributions to be available through GWW, to help others and spread the knowledge. It wasn't an issue of my contributions being "stolen" - it was voluntary consent for the benefit of both Wikis. In fact, even among people like you and me who don't favor GWW much, it is still quite rare to have avoided GDFL. Even people like Skuld and Auron, who don't love ANet by any means, were among the first to put up a GDFL. So trust me when I say you've got the whole notion wrong. As much as there may be emnity (real or imagined) between the two Wikis, it's important to not get carried away by popular accusations without doing your homework first.
  • Finally - this is to Auron...I know that you're a characteristic "hard-ass" (I say that affectionately) and generally blunt/realistic in your posts, but if the goal of your posts was to inspire Marco to better behavior, I'm not quite sure that was the way to go about it. I am in agreement with you that what Marco did wasn't acceptable, but it really is just one blip in his record for as long as I've known him. He really doesn't blow his top unless seriously provoked. I think it would be best to err on the side of leniency, this time around, and let Marco consider this a warning for the future. Your attitude is great when dealing with vandals and general dicks, Auron, but I think Marco had already learned his lesson by the time you posted here. I'm not assigning a burden of blame, but both of you are somewhat guilty of being unnecessarily defensive in your posts, when the other person wasn't trying to attack you at all. It just made for more of a mess. On the other hand, you're quick to defuse a situation Auron, so I guess this is just a small reminder, whereas for Marco it's a mistake to learn from.

That's my opinion of the issue. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 02:19, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Wiki Formatting[]

What a strange Edit Conflict. I saw your message, JD, but it still had four tildes at the end instead of a sig...
Apparently, if you start off with <!--, then anything after that doesn't actually do anything until it's ended. The ~~~~ would normally get replaced with the coding for my signature, but, since it never actually appeared, it never triggered the switch. Quite nifty indeed, I shall have to add that to my bag of tricks. ("High-Spirited and Diplomatic Wiki Editor goes on Rampage, Leaves Confusingly Simple Edits and Destroys Wiki!") --GEO-logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 03:09, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I'm well aware of <!-- How to make hidden comments -->, it's just that I didn't think it would do that in the middle of an EC. It looked like ''I'' had written that, olo. Learn something new everyday. ~~~~ The preceding mostly signed comment was added by Entropy (contribs).
It also helps to use the </nowiki> tag to close where you've posted an opening tag. ;-) --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 03:34, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
I was going to comment on how funny it was that to show </nowiki> you would need to write <nowiki></nowiki></nowiki> but then I thought of what I would need to write to do that and got stuck in a giggle-loop. Yes yes, you don't actually need to write all that. -Ezekiel 03:44, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, no worries, I saw who did what and where. And I saw the ~~~~ in there as well, without any edit conflicts... it was there as I was removing the extra ! from those hide tags. I'll bet if you checked the date on my signature, it's lined up to my fix edit, and not my post edit. :P
...And I want to blank a page so badly now! If I understand the coding correctly, I can just add <!-- to the top of a page, and instantly blank it. More or less. Won't show up as much in Recent Changes, either. (eh, I hope no vandals read your talk page, Entropy...) --GEO-logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:46, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
(reset indent): Eh, just to note, adding <!-- to the top of the page doesn't really work. It only hides part of the page, not the whole thing... hits a snag on some other code or something. I tested it on my userpage. :P --GEO-logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:48, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Your user page has the close tag already on it ... the commenting out ends on your page when that's hit. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:55, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
I did that on purpose you know ;) Leaving open tags isn't really a satisfactory way to blank a page, either, since most of the time it also results in messing up the page format some way some how. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 06:29, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Did what on purpose, the unclosed nowiki tag? I noticed that one too, which is why your post was graced by a modified unsigned note. :P
And I figured it was hitting the other tag there... so much for that. I can only blank pages that aren't very complicated. And I really don't think there should ever be a "satisfactory way to blank a page", so I'm happy with my results. --GEO-logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 19:45, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, you made an error, so I reciprocated. And hey, now there is a new way to hit unsigned comments, so it's all good.
Well, the problem is that the following line: <--Categories go below this line--> or something similar is on most of the pages for monsters and other important pages. You could still do the ninja blank on shorter pages or perhaps skill pages. Hmm, or perhaps use a template... Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 03:46, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

instead. That way, you don't need to worry about all those issues you get with tags on the outside of the links... --GEO-logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 22:01, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Ohai, that's Generic Automated Reply #312, thxbye. I know I shouldn't expect more, since it is ANet after all (Understaffed and Overworked - The New Profit Scheme!), but their "answers" aren't even helpful. You think that's bad? Read what happened to these guys--Marcopolo47 signature new.jpg (Talk) (Contr.) 04:00, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
...Wow. All I can say is, wow. Gaile has a point that repetetive postings don't speed things up, but seeing that from the player's point of view...her post just sort of slaps you in the face. I really sympathize with those people, and I'd be similarly incensed if it happened to me. I think it's silly that the basic question was not answered, namely, why the Support team can't be made better. People have said countless times, that when you consider how we don't pay a monthly fee, the service we get is pretty shitty...In effect, we pay as much as WoW users do, but not through "real" money. Sad stuff. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 04:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
...on the other hand, NCSoft Support does a better job of tech support then most computer companies. I've had a few problems with my computer itself while playing Guild Wars (crashes, video card glitches, etc.), and I've been shunted off to an actual person (or five), and they normally figure out the problem and tell you how to fix it within a few emails. Rather ironic perhaps, but still, Support's got at least a few things going for it. --GEO-logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 05:44, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
"but seeing that from the player's point of view...her post just sort of slaps you in the face." What am I missing here? She told us the exct reason, which was a bug in the software that tracks gold buyers. -- Gem (gem / talk) 08:08, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't think Anet is entirely responsible for support, it looks like it's run by ncsoft. Lord Belar 21:36, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
They do seem to give automate answers a lot. Example: I've been lagging a lot, something that I asked gw support about: answer 1 was (when i sent a -diag report):
  • Upgrade Graphics card drivers (they were up to date, but I reinstalled)
  • Increce Paging File (Which I did)

I relpyed saying it didn't help Responce: Please send in a -diag My reply: I have already! There responce:

  • Update Graphics card drivers

My Reply: I already have.

But they've given me some new info that i'll use next time I play! :( to support, but I'm not that angry! RT | Talk 21:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that's the kind of crap they just gave me yesterday...I mean, that is what I expect from someone like Microsoft or Comcast. Shitty automated service. I can put up with that, since I know they could care less about one single customer. The only way to work in those kinds of systems is to be aggressive and really push for the help you need. JD: Definitely, but they still slip up sometimes. Probably the best thing is that it's electronic; no waiting on Hold. X( Still, you have to compare sizes. NCSoft is a company that deals with games and related paraphenalia, so that's a single concentration/specialization. Naturally they should be more streamlined than huge, multimillion international corporations like Microsoft. Meh. Belar: ANet could still do something about it if they so wished.
Ohai Gem, it's good to see you again :) My reasoning isn't that Gaile left a vague answer or that she didn't do her job of being the middleperson between ANet and the players. But, it was just the way she said it. The lack of empathy is understandable, but she didn't apologize or say "We are sorry for the mistake", beyond "this will be investigated very seriously". Lolz, that sounds familiar...I mean, perhaps LaZy did exaggerate a little bit, but it wasn't just them...there were others too, posting about how they now felt they played in an atmosphere of fear and oppression. I mean, that's...bad. Horrible. There are implications beyond just the simple accidental bannings, which were fixed (if I read that right). When ANet (or I guess I should say NCSoft) does things which start to negatively affect the basic ommunity psychology, that has far-reaching effects on the whole game world. Despite the anonymity of online's just you and a screen...there has to be a certain level of established trust between the community and those who run the game. Gaile didn't help much with that. I know that they take a lot of crap, she especially. But the reply, I felt, was less than adequate. I'd expect that from a normal GWW admin, or a tech support/dev, but from someone who holds the post of "Community Relations Manager" I have higher standards.
To say it simply, replies like that make me question how much Gaile, ANet, and NCSoft give a damn about us. Anyone can give exact, technical replies to user questions. To do it nicely, apologetically, and without presumptiousness ("Hai plz don't tell ur guild memberz to post also, u r spammer") is another matter. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 23:49, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Support definitely sucks, the one time I tried to contact them, after a week I got an automated message saying "your report will be looked at." However, I can sympathize with Gaile as, while in this case this wasn't really an issue, most of the comments on her talk and suggestion pages generally consists of about a page of whining, crying, swearing and verbal abuse of anyone who might be associated with anet, with the occasional comment, complaint or suggestion buried under all that. BMP content info[]

I'm heavy working on documenting stuff from the recently released Bonus Mission Pack, but in GWW. I'm posting here, asking for someone to go to "My Contributions" in the Handy Links section of my userpage there, so you can start stealing for this wiki (I really don't wanna do the duplicated work). Ancient Bows, Bramble Bows, Droknar's Bow, etc...[]

These bows with two skins, should I merge these and leave a note saying which uses what skin? Jennalee 05:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

No, I wouldn't do that. If you have just one set of items that all use the same skin (ie. Droknar's X Staff) then it is okay to merge them all into one and make redirects. But for this case, there is no single standard name that could be used to adequately cover all the bows which use the skin. It wouldn't make much sense to have one article for them. All of Droknar's X Bow can be merged, perhaps Ancient X Bow also, but Bramble Bow should be left alone. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 03:11, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I thought about it and I'd say you could merge all the ones which come from one source but use two skins (aka, Tormented, Droknar's, the BMP items) but not the ones which are "common" - aka come from drops in various places. Anyhow, this seems to have already been done so there'd be less replication of pictures :p Jennalee 06:30, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Armor in item images[]

Since you guys all seem to visit this page, I'd like to say please don't tag the new images for deletion just because the user is wearing armor. As long as the armor is inobtrusive and doesn't distract from the item in question (I mean, no Chaos Gloves but something such as Shing Jea Ranger female should be OK), I don't see a problem with it. I mean, wouldn't you think female characters in underwear is more distracting than plain, undetailed, light colored armor which provides a suitable background for an item? Jennalee 09:23, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Unless of course its a female monk that is naked. --Hellbringer (T/C) 14:59, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Bandage underwear? D: I decided to wear the ascalon set dyed to a plain brown color usually unless it clashes. Less incidents of "upskirting" and what not <_<. I'd like to get it to a lightler color but that doesn't seem possible with the set when bought from Tyria. Not sure about the Canthan set though because they seem to dye to a lighter color than the equivalent Tyrian set. Jennalee 17:17, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I admit I was a bit overzealous with some of them. However, with the new items out, there were loads of them that DID need repairs - bad contrast, non-uniform backgrounds, images not focused on the item, images blatantly showing off armor... --Gimmethegepgun 17:41, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
The worst picture (no offence) had to be one of the Mursaat Maul, in which the male Warrior decided to have his Elite Luxon armour on. There were spikes everywhere!Khazad Guard 17:56, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I hope I didn't break too many monster pictures by changing the template so you could have two pictures of Turai Ossa <_< - that being said they should have standardized names also Jennalee 01:15, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

I believe you could have two pictures side by side, without changing the template, like for Sarah.--Marcopolo47 signature new.jpg (Talk) (Contr.) 01:18, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, didn't know :P - rev the changes I guess >.> Jennalee 02:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, rev back to the lines I copied from the item templates - Sarah's dual images breaks the template. I'm about to head out tho so if you're not done with that, I'll finish it when I get home <_< Jennalee 02:40, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm inclined to agree with Jennalee - the point of images for weapons and foci and shields etc. is to show that object - not the character holding the object. As such, the more closely it is cropped, the better, and part of that means using a nonobtrusive armor which doesn't blend or clash. We shouldn't get too picky about uniform this and contrast that - if you can see the item clearly, that's fine. If another pic could be used which displays the item even better, then replace them. However, just remember that there are no clear standards, except of course for pixellation = bad. :) Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 03:11, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

  1. Make the topic of the picture visible
  2. Actually KNOW what the topic of the picture is (some people seem to think that the topic of the weapon picture is their armor)
  3. Don't distract people away from the topic with other things in the picture
  4. High quality (non-pixelated) pictures
--Gimmethegepgun 03:55, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Can we make an image standards template like the welcome template on the official wiki? I'm annoyed at having to write more than I need to to remind certain contributors of what they *should* be including in a picture. Jennalee 06:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Alright I'm having trouble with the weapon info stuff like Mursaat Focus. I'm trying to add a picture for it but I don't know how to add a link to an image and stuff like that. Can someone help me? --Hellbringer (T/C) 19:01, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Nah, he's right. LDD is pretty easy nowadays. It is still hard if you lack the right setup, though. That was a long time ago so I don't remember the exact skillbars. But this should work...

Typical Prot monk. Aegis isn't too necessary because you have an NPC prot monk to assist, and the most deadly foes will be spellcasters anyways.

...Most people use Winter but that has been bugged since a while back. So, Ward Against Harm can be used to compensate. It should drastically help with damage reduction, especially from the Armageddon Lords and the Sparks of the Titans. You don't have any heavy damage-dealing capacity, but that is alright since this is more defense oriented.

King Adelbern already comes with two Adelbern's Guards and an Adelbern's Priest. The three Warriors will pin down the targets that you Daze with BHA. The Priest carries some basic Protection spells and Condition removal.

Remember to equip the Ebon Vanguard Title Track for the Rebel Yell benefit! It really helps! Consumables are also useful.

Here's the general strategy.

  • Approach from the south, avoiding as many Charr patrols as possible. It's pointless to engage them and only increases your risk of getting DP.
  • As soon as Adelbern and company are in sight, run over to them. Try to stay nearby at all times, letting them tank while you sit back and heal. If the King and his allies engage a group before you get there, they could be quickly spiked. The loss of even one fighter is not an option (unless it's on the very last group).
  • Groups of Charr and Titans will come at you from various directions. They will always have at least one Armageddon Lord. Titans and other Charr make up the rest of the force. Some Charr are level 22, so watch for these.
    • Always take out the Spark of the Titans first, if there are any. Their Rodgort's Invocation is extremely deadly. At the very least, interrupt them with Dshot first.
    • Next, take out the Armageddon Lords. Once they break up into a Risen Ashen Hulk you can leave them alone.
    • If there were any Charr Shaman Lord, take those out next. They are healers, but not terribly powerful ones.
    • Take out individual Hand of the Titans and Fist of the Titans next.
    • Then, take out the other high-level Charr.
    • Lastly, break up the Risen Ash Hulks into Hands and Fists. Do this one at a time, and focus fire. Then take out the low-level Charr, if the AoE didn't already catch them.
  • After all members of a group are vanquished, the next will spawn and head towards your position. King Adelbern and company will move back a bit to anticipate them. Follow a little bit behind, allowing them to grab aggro, but stay close enough to emergency heal if necessary.
  • Repeat the above process until all groups are dead.
  • On the final group, you can let everyone but Adelbern die if you want, since only he is required to survive. This group can be easily identified because it has two Armageddon Lords.

I hope that helps. There are easier ways to do it, of course, but that is what I remember off the top of my head... Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 02:34, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Restore Life? Ewwwww! Hybrid monks FTW! --Blue.rellik 02:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
TBH you shouldn't even need a rez, I find that if I get any deaths in missions like LDD that usually means game over anyways. A quick, full rez is really the only option. I dunno what I was thinking about with Restore Life; that's my generic PvE WoH, but in LDD you don't have 6 seconds :) Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 02:53, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Lolwut? That's great, and what a coincidence :P I have been seeking this Green for a long long long time. Totem Axe is the only comparable weapon for I was using that on my IW Mesmer. It is against the rules to remove the Ban tag from your own userpage unless it is obviously inappropriate. For example if I put a ban tag on Marco's page for Reason: Spams too much. That's just silly. So he could remove it. Most times, though, you want to Assume Good Faith that the person who puts the tag has a legitimate reason.
The odd thing about your case is that both you and the anon could be said to have performed actions which were, in a way, bannable offenses...GW:1RV comes to mind. Although you did PM me in-game so that was good. I think I may go edit GW:NOT to reference GWW. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 00:33, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
