I'm not going to F1 you and give you all messages, you'll probably find me annoying.

Yes, also - google translate puts some funny translations from dutch into English, does it do the same with my translations into dutch? RandomTime 11:46, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
It always does, since it ignores grammar :) Dutch and English grammar are quite different. --- VipermagiSig.JPG -- (contribs) (talk) 11:53, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, the "he is" thing (about him being Dutch) isn't said in Dutch, for one.--TalkpageEl_Nazgir 11:55, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I don't know what the literal translation of "Lol, je moet een paar kopjes omhoog" is, but "Lol, you need a few cups up." is blatantly a mistranslation (as it doesn't make any sense in English) RandomTime 11:57, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
"Kopjes" translates to "Headers" => "You need to look a few headers up". Which still sounds awkward, if you ask me. --- VipermagiSig.JPG -- (contribs) (talk) 12:03, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
EC. Also, shouldn't it be "You need to look up a few headers" for it to be grammatically correct? --TalkpageEl_Nazgir 12:05, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
It would probably be better as, "You need to scroll up a few headers" or "You need to read the message a few headers up" RandomTime 12:06, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it may well be actually. /doh. However, I couldn't access #rc via the link - which I assumed to mean it was now no longer used Randomtime 06:28, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

GW2 forum split[]

I'd been thinking of doing that myself, so cheers. One thing I would've done differently is to just make the main page an index of links to the sub-pages, instead of including all of them - while that does solve the problem of bloat while editing, it doesn't really help with the bloat while reading. But I guess it doesn't really matter, I'll be reading it all by diffs so I'll never have a need to look at the whole thing anyway. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 20:27, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

I considered doing that, but I went against it as some may want to read the forum like that - reading by diffs solves the problem for people who want to just read a thread, as you said. It was edit bloat that made me do it, as navigation through headers seems fine. RandomTime 20:31, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

"Creating a cabal"[]

I figure it was you, or at least partially you[]

Is it not worth making this page, at least trying to get people to like GuildWiki? A F K sig 2.jpg A F K When Needed 12:50, May 29, 2010 (UTC)

It can only change capitalization and space/underscore usage, which means it really has very limited uses: on NieA_7 to force display of the underscore, and on iPod to change the capitalization. Not much use for that on this wiki. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 22:07, June 4, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I know - I was using it to test how it worked due to a question on #wikia, and read the docs soon after. Needs $wgRestrictDisplayTitle to be false for it to be useful for the question in hand. RandomTime 23:45, June 4, 2010 (UTC)

Re:edits on Nine rings[]

Yo, the calculations on nine rings is wrong. It has to calculate the net profit from each circle, since you pay 10 tickets win or lose each prize isn't 55,40,25 its 45,30,15 which changes all the numbers of which circle provides the most benefit.. lol why did you revert my update? If you still disagree then leave it but at least give it some thought. :P

Bah, sorry, brainfart - saw a large removal of text, and didn't check the numbers before I clicked revert, I'll read through the edit more throughly in the future, you have my apologies. -- RandomTime 16:10, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
Aaah, I see your logic now. Lucky points for "tickets won" include the number of tickets that you "lost" for entering the game. So a win in the centre would be a win, in the title sense, of 25 tickets, even though the actual gain in tickets is only 15. If your edit took this into account, and I failed to see something else you were pointing out, please add it back in. -- RandomTime 16:14, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, the anon failed to subtract the cost of the tickets from a loss, giving -10 instead of 0; if he had, the whole table would have had the same outcome (net loss is 1/18 per ticket), but be more complicated:

  Net for Each Outcome
(A = prize-10)
Chance of Each Outcome
Average Net per Round for Each Outcome
(A × B)
Average Net per Round
Net per Round Net Return per Ticket
(De jure)
Losing Winning
(De jure)
Losing Winning
(De jure)
Center 15 5 -10 1/9 4/9 4/9 1.6667 2.2222 -4.4444 -0.5556 -0.5556 -0.0556
Side 30 5 -10 1/9 3/9 5/9 3.3333 1.6667 -5.5556 -0.5556 -0.5556 -0.0556
Corner 45 5 -10 1/9 2/9 6/9 5 1.1111 -6.6667 -0.5556 -0.5556 -0.0556

--◄mendel► 16:54, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

Aah, that was it. I was looking for something else that would have made the table make sense with those calculations. Mendel, you're a genius -- RandomTime 17:10, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, very sorry about that, I was having extreme browser lag, coupled with fatigue. Shall not happen again -- RandomTime 08:26, July 15, 2010 (UTC)
Well, it was good of you to notice yourself that your block length was a bit off. ;) And it was also well done of you to handle that, because that way Dr Ishmael was able to stay out and avoid any appearance of personal issues being involved. --◄mendel► 08:45, July 15, 2010 (UTC) & 10:17, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Also, this shouldn't have been a rollback, since it wasn't outright vandalism. (The user may have had the misguided impression that the software inserted a quote of the previous posts, like some webforum software does.) The comment posted in John7777's edit is not vandalistic, and should have been kept on the page (I restored it and replied). Removing comments of others is highly inflammatory and may have contributed to Josh's outbreak of anger that followed. --◄mendel► 08:30, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

't's classeh, dood! A F K sig 2.jpg A F K When Needed 13:39, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

page merges[]

I don't recall that we merge page histories on page merges. Generally, I think that it is a bad idea because then stuff like this makes the merged history unusable. People can see the merger via the history, and look up the history of the merged page on its own history.

Also, your move and de-tag ec'ed me while I was rewriting the thing. --◄mendel► 14:11, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I was half way through doing it one way - then I did it another way, sorry for the EC -- RandomTime 14:15, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Another example why history merge is bad on page merges: To appreciate your rewrite, I have to chose the diff 2 lines down for comparison; if I compare to the edit before it, I'm basing it on the wrong text. It's now impossible to determine which text was, historically, on what page: we can't tell any more what we merged with what.
An example for when a history merge is appropriate would be when somebody did a copy & paste move, with subsequent edits. --◄mendel► 14:23, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
You have successfully made your point, I assure you it won't happen again -- RandomTime 22:37, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

Forum Highlands[]

I feel uncomfortable with an artcile like that being unavailable to editors (such as myself) indefinitely; while a protection seems in order, a week at most should suffice. What we really want to do is figure out if there's a link (maybe even an edit link?) to this page that causes it to be spammed; but even if we don't, the ability for people to edit our pages is more important to me than reverting a spammer once a month. --◄mendel► 09:18, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

this is what the log of a spambot looks like. --◄mendel► 09:23, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
You should have been able to edit it, as I chose only IPs to be protected IIRc. Anyway, I changed the protection level to 2 weeks. ---- RandomTime 11:11, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I missed that it was IP only; sorry. Thank you. --◄mendel► 13:02, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
Sysop only protection is only indefinite on frequently used templates and the main page - any other use would be completely irresponsible. There should, still, have been a time limit on the protect. -- RandomTime 13:05, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed we're in agreement on that. :-D --◄mendel► 14:19, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

Does that mean the Wikia global blacklist doesn't affect us? --◄mendel► 20:05, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately not, it just removes from the blacklist on #cvn-wikia, which automatically adds users to said blacklist (for a period of time, I think it's 2 weeks) when they've been blocked on any wiki. As Ishy's block has expired, and he wasn't blocked for vandalism - there's no reason he should be on there -- RandomTime 20:24, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

I would recommend moving that to a more specific name, like 'SigButton' or something. 'Sig' sounds like it should be an actual signature. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 14:09, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

Very well, consider it moved, I think SigImage should be fine - whilst it could technically be still a sig, it's out of the way enough that nobody will mistake it, it's mostly to subst: for myself anyway. -- RandomTime 14:25, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
That's fine. I was mostly worried about people using sig templates, since they're usually named 'Sig' (or '~'), and if they forget to put their username in front of it when setting it up. Getting a redlink is a more obvious indication that their sig code is wrong; getting this image (especially after subst:ing) would be confusing. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 14:47, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I see how that would be a problem -- RandomTime 15:17, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
