For what it's worth, I am against continuing the block on this user, although I cannot personally vouch for him/her. As far as I know only 2 edits were recently made, and I submit that the first may have been an accident caused by mistakenly selecting the wrong local file to upload, especially since it was soon self-corrected by the second upload. The second upload does not appear to be a major point of contention as it has remained unedited up to this point (although it should be noted that it depicts the wrong gender). --Rezyk 15:54, 17 March 2006 (CST)

This user has the same options that any other user has to contest a ban:
  1. They can look at most Admin's user pages (mine for example) see if they list their in-game characters and try to contact them in game.
  2. They can go to the main page, click on the link to the blog and post a message there (I don't know how effective that would be as I personally don't check that too often).
  3. They can click on the Forums link in the sidebar and post a message about it there.
They can do all these things because when you are banned you are only stopped from doing any sort of editing on the site, you can still view it normally. Personally if they had uploaded the correct gender on the second try, or if they had posted something to the effect of, "Oops, sorry did the wrong thing." or whatever, I wouldn't have banned them. --Rainith 00:59, 18 March 2006 (CST)
Thanks, but I already knew or figured as much. I am just giving my opinion for the benefit of admins in better understanding the community's opinions in cases like this. --Rezyk 03:11, 19 March 2006 (CST)
And my post was at least in part so that this user would get the message the next time they logged on in case they didn't know about it. --Rainith 03:18, 19 March 2006 (CST)
Okay, sorry. It seemed like you were responding primarily towards me. My mistake. --Rezyk 04:38, 19 March 2006 (CST)
It was both. It was intended to be my response to your statement and to let the user know what their options were if their uploads were honest mistakes on their part. So far I haven't had a response from the user one way or the other.
As for the Admins knowing the community's opinions, 1) the Admins are part of the community and 2) a non-Admin was the one who requested the ban on the user in the first place. I have seen no one, other than you express displeasure at this ban.
Finally this user's ban will be up in 3 or so more days time (always difficult to figure that out as the server's timestamp seems to be so freakin' far off), so if they have an opinion on it, I hope that they will post it at that time, if not before in one of the previously mentioned ways. --Rainith 04:55, 19 March 2006 (CST)

I do not think the block is warranted, Rainith. It seems like an innocent mistake. :) --Karlos 04:59, 19 March 2006 (CST)
Don't think you saw the first picture that I deleted. Photograph of a couple of people. Not x-rated or anything, but nothing even close to GW related. --Rainith 05:06, 19 March 2006 (CST)
No, I didn't, but it's possible he clicked on the wrong image in a folder list and then corrected the mistake. It's not like he got the right image the second time around, he uploaded a picture of male, not female, armor. But he obviously did not mean to upload that first picture, whatever it was. --Karlos 05:18, 19 March 2006 (CST)
Note that the "corrected" image is also not Charlatan's Armor. Instead, it's just the crafter version of Stylish Armor. In fact, it looks like it's just a thumbnail version of this image. I just don't buy the idea that this was someone's good faith attempt at uploading a female Charlatan's Armor screenshot. --adeyke 18:46, 19 March 2006 (CST)

Ok, here is the timeline (just for the curious):

  • 16:30, 16 March 2006 SubGenius uploaded "Image:Charlatan's Female.jpg" <-photo of 2 people
  • 16:19, 16 March 2006 SubGenius uploaded "Image:Charlatan's Female.jpg" <-right idea wrong gender; elapsed time between edits: 11 minutes

Page history

  • 16:32, 16 March 2006 . . Adeyke <-Block request; done 2 minutes after the 2nd image was uploaded

Block log

  • 19:01, 16 March 2006 Rainith blocked "User:SubGenius" with an expiry time of 1 week (Vandalism)

Deletion log

  • 19:01, 16 March 2006 Rainith deleted "User:SubGenius" (content was: '{{ban|bad upload|Image:Charlatan's_Female.jpg}}' (and the only contributor was 'Adeyke')) Block and deletion of block requst happened at the same time; elapsed time between block being requested and user being blocked ~2.5 hours. User made no attempt to fix or explain uploads in that time.

Now in all fairness SubGenius may have seen the ban request go up on their page and been scared/insulted/whatever and just left, I don't know. After all is said and done, I blocked the user same as I've done for many other users. Have I made mistakes in the past? Yes. Was blocking this user a mistake? I don't think so, Karlos if you do, as an Admin, you can unblock them. I'll take no offense if you do and just in case anything I've said might make it seem otherwise, nothing that I've said anywhere on this page was intended to cause offense to anyone, if it did, my apologies. --Rainith 05:35, 19 March 2006 (CST)
