Materials Storage of the Vault Box

A Vault Box, more commonly referred to as "Storage" by players, is a magical storage service offered by the Xunlai guild.

In order to gain a Vault Box, each roleplaying character must first open an account with the Xunlai guild at any Xunlai Agent for the price of 50 Gold. PvP characters do not have to pay a fee to access the Vault Box.

Despite the fact that the access fees must be paid by each individual PvE character of an account, the Vault Box is shared among all characters of that account, allowing for transfer of items, materials, and gold, among all the characters of that account.

Storage Options

Funds

The Vault Box can be used to store in-game money (gold and platinum), much like a bank, but without the interest. The maximum amount that can be deposited is 1,000Platinum (i.e. 1 million Gold). A character's inventory can hold a maximum of 100Platinum.

The total amount of gold and platinum currently in the Vault Box is shown at the top of the window. Right below it are the buttons used to deposit and withdraw money. Any character may deposit and withdraw money. The "Deposit Funds" button will grey out if the character has no further funds to deposit or the total maximum is already stored, and the "Withdraw Funds" button greys out if there are no funds available to withdraw or if the character is already carrying 100Platinum.

Items

The Vault Box has 2 to 4 item tabs, labelled I to IV, each of which has storage space for 20 items or item stacks. The number of item tabs (and thus the amount of storage) depends on the number of campaigns tied to the game account. There is one "core" tab, plus an additional tab per campaign on the account, for a minimum of 40 item slots (2 tabs) and a maximum of 80 (4 tabs). Items that cannot be stacked (such as most weapons and runes) will take up 1 item slot. Items that can be stacked (such as dyes and crafting materials) take up only one item slot, and can be stacked up to a maximum of 250 items. To split a stack, hold down the [Shift] key before you drag-and-drop the stack.

Materials

The storage for materials is an optional upgrade to the Vault Box. It allows storage of up to 250 of every type of common and rare crafting materials. Any surplus from the maximum of 250 must be kept as a separate stack in one of the item storage sections or in a character's inventory.

This upgrade is available by paying an additional fee of 50 Gold (for each roleplaying character that wants access) to a Xunlai Agent. Once upgraded, it can be accessed via any Xunlai Chest. The materials storage will show up as a separate tab.

PvP characters can also perform the upgrade.

Notes

  • The Vault Box is as useful as a way to transfer items between characters as it is to permanently store items. Even with the Vault Box's potential maximum of 80 items, more storage may be needed. The Vault Box is often used to move items to a "mule" character to hold the items.
  • The Vault Box window, unlike merchant windows and other NPC windows, will remain open until one zones or closes it even if one moves around, and requires no proximity to any Xunlai Agent in order to function.
  • Male Xunlai Agents were formally found in Lion's Arch, Shing Jea Monastery, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan, Jewel of Istan.
  • Keep in mind that each unused Hero is a potential storage space. With the introduction into the game of the Perfect Salvage Kit, it is possible to have what is effectively an "airport locker" system (minimal gold sink) for insignias, runes, weapons and (even when the hero wields a two-handed weapon) offhand items. With the introduction into the game of the Bonus Mission Pack, weapon skins are a fairly easy way to get a specific weapon with open inscription/upgrade slots. An unused hero can therefore "store" 5 insignias, 5 runes, a weapon skin with prefix, inscription, and suffix mods, and an offhand item with inscription and suffix mods. In other words, a total of 17 items, with some limitations, can be "stored" on each hero. With the potential for 25 heroes per character, this is a significant extra storage potential.

Historical Notes

  • The materials storage upgrade (added with the 13th July 2006 game update) significantly reduced the need for mule characters. It was originally made available only to accounts with access to Guild Wars Factions. With the release of Guild Wars Nightfall, Xunlai Representatives have been added to the ports of both the Prophecies and Nightfall campaigns; effectively making the upgrade available to all.
  • Prior to the April 5th, 2007 update, only one item tab was available in the Vault Box. This update added an additional tab containing 20 slots for each campaign activated on the account.
