The wolf is a fierce animal, able to be tamed by anyone with the ranger skill Charm Animal. There are four differently-named wolves often confused as different NPCs:
Wolves roam the fields north of Ashford Village and the foothills of the mountains in Wizard's Folly. They will attack on sight, but Rangers can use Charm Animal on them to gain their aid as a pet.
Snow Wolves roam the Northern Shiverpeaks, and are not aggressive towards players unless provoked. These are simply a higher-level version of Wolves from before the Searing.
Elder Wolves are found in the Southern Shiverpeaks. They are usually near Thul the Bull in Spearhead Peak. These are higher level versions of Snow Wolves. Level 20 versions are also the default pet given to PvP players that equip Charm Animal, thus making them core pets.
